Actually, the MRI wasn't negative. The MRI showed "nothing serious". There is a difference. Furthermore, the "fine" was Demps referring to his hamstring.

Some people called Kingsbury stupid or naive for admitting that to a paper but I think it just exemplifies how rampant rule-bending is in the league to the point that he probably thought it was no big deal.

I'm probably more happy about this move than I should be. I like gray but blount is more proven. With the two of them I'm now confident our running game at the very least will be solid going forward.

Is their an argument that BB wouldn't use 'injury gray area' to place a player on IR for the unstated purpose of keeping him for another season??
I have no idea if the facts state BB has or has not done this before, however, IMHO there is no doubt whatsoever BB would do this/skirt the very edge of the rule to gain this advantage.
This mindset of BB is one element that answers the question, why do the Patriots win so much? (and also answers why we are so extremely fortunate to have him as our HC).

As far as Blount? Blount's here, probably on a somewhat relatively short leash, can be jettisoned with no real ramifications, we absolutely can use RB depth, he definitely shows/has shown moments of rock solid production. It's a good, largely risk free pickup that makes us better in the running game going into the bad weather, meat grinder part of the season. And that's that on Blount. On to the Lions......

Why does it matter to me when the player was placed on IR? Because of the injury reporting that goes on after each regular season practice. I have seen multiple Patriots waived/injured during the preseason over the years without ever first hearing that they were injured. I just happen to think that there is far more scrutiny of injury reporting during the regular season than during the preseason. This board has many posters with various lengths of fandom. The very fact that no one has yet to report a Kingsbury/Demps like situation occurring during the regular season is telling.

How do you know that no investigation was done? It's not like the Commissioner's office announces every investigation they do? Clearly you didn't read the rules provided to you because the Commissioner's office is required to review every case of a player being put on the IR..

BTW, it doesn't matter how badly injured a player is, they can be put on IR. The Demps example doesn't help you at all.. You thinking it does shows your own bias..

If an investigation of the Patriots was done, it would have made major headlines.

Mike Florio is credible. I think your dismissal of his reporting calls out your own bias.

I understand what you are saying. You are saying a player could have minor injury and go to IR. What is also clear is that the league does not have any stipulations or guidelines from an injury standpoint what is required to be eligible for the IR designation. As I said..squishy.

There is no perhaps. You are 100% making up the criteria that the injury has to be long term. Hard to have a discussion with someone who responds to 2+2=4 with perhaps.

Yes they do. The requirement is "unable to play due to injury". That is clear as can be unless you are trying to hold on to an argument that the clear definition rebuts.

I think Blount's meltdown with Pitt had a simpler explanation than something wrong with the Pitt locker room or coaching staff. Blount came to Pitt with the expectation of some sort of timeshare at RB only to see a younger, more talented player emerge and dominate snaps, and he doesn't seem like a mat +ure enough guy to handle that. 5 teams in 5 years seems to support that argument.

Seems like a very fair assessment (except for the arithmetic... TB+NE+PIT+NE=4, or maybe 3.5 ). And beyond his NFL travels, Blount went undrafted after being suspended twice in college.

I think Pats fans know what they're getting: a talented but inconsistent back with tantalizing flashes of dominance but frustrating work ethic, and a history of pissing people off coast to coast. But he's far better than you'd expect to find as cheap late-season depth, especially given that he's already familiar with the offense.

He is also undisciplined, a potential head case and crazy......

.........not Celebrating-For-20-Seconds-After-A-Sack-At-Midfield-To-Almost-Lose-A-Game-For-Your-Team crazy, but crazy nonetheless.

I'm sure the contract he signed yesterday is a very interesting read.

NFL Rules..

If the team decides to place a player on injured reserve, it must be a major injury. The NFL defines major injury as an injury that renders the player unable to practice or play football for at least six weeks -- or 42 calendar days -- from the date of injury.

This rule seems long term to me and how the injury is diagnosed and recovery is managed makes this IMO squishy.
