Bill Belichick appreciation thread

Rex is fake. He went hard at Saleh and then within 48hrs, did a complete 180. Lost respect for him after he did that.

You waited a helluva long time to lose respect for that bloated foghorn.

Just checking in...

And to add :

Tony Dungy, author of SOOO many disappointments, is a darling (despite the dark side no one cares to explore) and is universally heralded despite his failures and measly ONE SB (I know, one is amazing, but when you speak of all timers….)

To be fair he did build the 2002 Tampa team though

I know what you're saying. I think if that was the case Vrabel would've just waved and run off the field. But he ran directly at BB, BB stopped, Vrabel looked at him and kept running. Because these two have a "history" I watched through binoculars and it came off as kind of an odd drive-by non-handshake. I think Vrabel was pissed about the game and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Agree. Looked like Bill was ready for a very brief conversation, as is the norm for coaches with whom he has worked or with whom he is close, but Vrabel wanted no part of that.

I'd love to.

(1) the 2018 team floundered
(2) a reset was necessary
(3) Brady understandibly wanted to play for a "win now"
(4) NE got their stuff together and reloaded in the draft & FA
(5) both teams are winning at a similar clip
(6) despite Brady's unique excellence and longevity, it's LIKELY Mac will still be in the league in 4-5 years, whereas Brady LIKELY won't.

I love me some Brady, but I unlike many posters, I'm not IN love with him. I don't think NE is 8-4 with Brady in 2021 because I don't think the reset occurs to the point it did if he stuck around.
Ignoring the personal feelings that seem to have some impact on the decision, staying with Brady was not feasible without some sort of compromise. The fact that Brady has continued to defy father time is not only amazing, it put the team in an awkward position. For Brady to stay with the Patriots during a reload cycle, he would have had to take less money for a short amount of term and be willing to work with young teammates. With the expectations of top dollar and term, the team could not invest in new talent keeping Brady. Best case this would have resulted in repeating 2018 and delaying the inevitable. Brady going to a solid veteran team with talent and cap space for his last years while freeing cash and creating the opportunity for BB to build dynasty phase 3 is a win win situation for all.

And couldn't coach them to their potential. And followed it by also not coaching the Manning teams to their potential.

Vrabel has been a turd since he got kicked to the curb after 2008 for horrendous play.

Then he’s got his weird draft war room with one son dressed in a sperm costume and another one is on the toilet.

Then he throws a tantrum over a using a precious challenge flag early in the game.

Now I’m hearing he runs away from Bill because he lost. Does anybody remember if he shook hands with Bill after his victories over Bill?

The reason it didn’t work in Tampa because the offense was so anemic. Gruden comes in a makes them competent.

Indy had a terrible defense with no pass rushers or any that scared you in the secondary. Dungy comes in and builds a competent enough D to complement the offense.

Has one 7-9 rebuild. People revolt. Weird.
We live in a world of hot takes.

News cycles are short, so you gotta get in early with the hottest take you can manufacture.

News cycles die quick, so the hot takes you get wrong die quick.

I have no doubt at all the Pats would win ring #7 this year if they kept Brady. He's going to win MVP and he is the best QB in football hands down. But what's done is done.
Brady would be cashing huge checks while throwing to a far less talented roster than NE currently finances thanks to the near total reset.
And the cap issues that plagued the team after 2019 would not have disappeared, not with Tompa demanding $25 mill/season

Even if the challenge thing didn't piss him off, he had to be pissed about the long run ending with a fumble and recovery by NE, and the long drive ending with a tip and an INT in the end zone, and his team being behind by just 3 at the half then scoring zero points in the second half. Not at all how he would have wanted things to go.

I think the best part about all of this is that this year is still just building the foundation. A lot of these guys are new to the organization. Mac's a rookie. Next year and the year after that could be exponentially better.

People say that a lot, but why don’t they say the same thing about John Fox building the 2015 Broncos? He’s just considered a two-time Super Bowl loser.

Tony Dungy was a good regular season coach who consistently could not step his game up for the playoffs. He got the one SB win, so good on him, that elevates him from Marv Levy and Marty Schottenheimer, and puts him closer to Andy Reid and Bill Cowher. I guess if the latter 2 are considered HOFers then so should Dungy.

He did say that but I think they could have made it work if they really wanted to. It's not like Brady hasn't done that before.

Usually, the Bradyites post Bill's record without Tom after a Patriots loss...haven't heard from them in a while.

We're good right now of course but how good is still TBD. Beat the Bills next Monday night in their place and then it's time to think we might be watching something special happening here.

He'd win ring #7 this year because of Bill's coaching...all Bill needs is an efficient quarterback who doesn't make mistakes, a good running game, and a good defense.

That won in 2001 but we'll find out if that kind of QB can win it all in 2021.

Can Mac put his team on his back and carry his team to go all the way? Brady can. We'll see if Mac can too.

Without Brady Bill is 4 games under .500 as a head coach, moving ahead of Rex Ryan who is 5 games under .500.

Another lost season and getting to .500 in that category would be a tall order. It doesn't appear that way now so I expect him to get above water soon.

All he needs is an efficient QB who doesn't make mistakes like he had with Cassel, Garroppolo, etc. He didn't have that in Cleveland.
