Bengals All-Pro DE Trey Hendrickson granted permission to request trade

If Judon was worth a 3rd to someone last year I think that's a fair starting place for Hendrickson. I'd do it and I'd guess someone else would too if not us. Ideally we get more out of him than Atlanta got out of Judon both in terms of sacks per year and more than 1 season. I didn't like trading Judon last year and I think Hendrickson has more in the tank so that's why I'd do it.

Problem is he probably wants a new deal too. Not that I wouldn't do that too but for how much because trading and paying up makes it double costly.
There is no probably about it - he wants a new deal. Look at the Maxx Crosby deal for equivalent numbers.

If he plays in 2025, he walks in 2026. The Bengals will get a 3 as a compensatory pick... So nothing more than that.If we were to do this, I would prefer not paying more than a 4. Maybe add a late round pick swap to sweeten the deal... And it needs to be done before camp, preferably before otas.

A new deal would have to be negotiated before hand as well. Crosby got what a 3:year, 106m extension, 91m guarantee? So what would work? 3 years, 100m, 80 to 90 guarantee? Or is that too much? Can add a void year if it helps spread the hit... What is his market value?

They are really going to pay Higgins and Chase damn Bungles.

Why are you damning them? It’s a colossally stupid move that pretty much guarantees they won’t be winning anything anytime soon.

Eagles and Bills we be all over this, maybe KC
The Bills are in a tight spot cap wise. NFL Salary Cap Space | Over The Cap You can always create more room to sign virtually anyone, but at a cost that typically mortgages the future. But, maybe they go for it to finally get a Lombardi.

The Bills opted for defense almost exclusively this past draft.

Looking over their 2024 stats, Im shocked how paltry the Bills WR and TE receiving numbers are. Not even 1 guy with 1000 receiving yards and over 5 TDs. They look like NE offense numbers as of late and Buffalo won 13 games and the AFCE. Mac Hollins had the most Bills receiving TDs @ 5 who is now in NE.

Our first goal is to have a winning season. We have a chance at doing that if we stay healthy. I do not believe we fixed this team's lack of talent in one offseason and draft. We made significant strides. At 30 years old, Hendrickson is a win now guy. He would be an awesome addition for a team poised to make a Superbowl run. That is just not us. By the time we get there, he we be in the decline. Save the cap space and pick your shots.

You CANNOT pay all your great players TOP $.
It's just not possible unless you go with chumps in the Mid/Lower portion of your roster.
Cincinnati is figuring it out the hard way.

TBH I think Cincinnati is doing it the right way. It's so hard to find QB1 and WR1. They have managed to do so. Also these positions are fairly well protected, most injuries are non-contact, so hopefully they have longevity. So, throw the money at the stars on offense, and hope you can get by with lower priced talent elsewhere. Probably won't be a title winning situation unless everything lines up perfectly, but at least it'll be entertaining.

PS: Why is Henderson pissed about getting a text that he's going to be fined for missing camp? That's what the rules say so he should have expected such a text. He was allowed to look for trades. It looks like he didn't bring back the kind of interest he or the team were expecting to see. Looks like he's misjudged his market. The only way for him to get more value is to go to camp and show what he can do on the field.

I think if they were close to being a championship caliber team, then maybe. Now? Nah. Further, I don't want to load up on high end contracts for aging vets at this point in the rebuild.

i don't disagree with this... but each piece brings you closer to competitive... though i can't see the Pats wanting to fork over ≈90 million dollars in guaranteed money for him

Or trade assets.

If they want this guy, they can get him on the open market next year, if indeed he's the final piece. I will wager that they've got some guys to rush the QB now there's a new sheriff in town, and they aren't running a Belichick defense designed to keep QBs in the pocket. If they are inclined to sped money on a 30+ guy, I'd rather earmark that money for WR Terry Mac next year.

I’m not convinced that adding Trey wouldn’t legit make the Pats an AFCE contender.

I get the “best for a win now team” concept but there IS a path to the Pats being a win now team.

Issue is, until/unless you KNOW Drake is a franchise guy…you’re gambling.

But Trey plus them cobbling together a top 10-ish offense (Josh did it with Mac) makes them a playoff team.

No way the Patriots should pay Hendrickson Crosby money. I really like the player, I just think it's in the Patriots best interest's this season and beyond to not pay out that kind of money for a guy that'll be 31 this coming season. We have to consider those players that are on the team now and in the future that might prove worth extending, and also what possibly much younger UFA's might be available in 2026 Free Agency and/or by trade. Let's see what Swinson and other young guys on the team might be capable of this season.

The problem is that the market has been wrecked by inferior players such as Bradley Chubb then Josh Allen and Brian Burns which causes the value to keep sky rocketing. And why is Greg Rousseau making $20M per year, Montez Sweat making $24M per year and Rashan Gary making $24M per year? Crosby is making too much money. Milton Williams somehow got $26M annually and he hasn't even done much to deserve that. Lots of stupid contracts which is par for the course in this era of the NFL.

Danielle Hunter just landed $35M annually and Myles Garrett at 30 years old just got $40M annually. Since 2020, Hendrickson has averaged 14.1 sacks per season. Myles Garrett has averaged 14.4 sacks per year. Hendrickson has got to be the most disrespected player in the NFL.

A 4th would likely get him.. 4th rounder to precise maybe a 3rd? I like Hendrickson.. this team is believing in Vrabel and what they are after. Guys are hungry and want to win. This is a playoff team. Hendrickson absolutely makes this already good defensive even more potent. Having gonzo and Davis on the outside Hendrickson would have 20 sacks this season if we got him. I know about the age exct.. but Crosby has to be close in age no?

And those numbers will continue to go up..QB WR, pass rushers, CB.. valuable positions.. GMs and agent's all know those spots will continue climb.. to your post what has Bradley chubb ever do? Williams as an interior player was smart he got paid becuase of the market and of course he's a disruptive force in the middle. But to your point guys are getting some crazy contracts.

To rainmakers points guys got crazy contracts due to the market being reset.. Garrett as great as he is.. got paid to settle down his trade request. But I agree we have some depth at pass rush and im eager to see what the guys we have can do.

Jadaveon Clowney is available for free.

the only hiccup is if he hits the open market, you now have competition... trade for him, the only issue is money... considering that ownership here has what i like to call shallow pockets at times when negotiating with free agents, that might be a difficult get... we grossly overpaid for milton williams this year... can only imagine what hendrickson would cost on the open market

We can't have shallow pockets and one hand and grossly overpay on the other. I am of the opinion the cheapskate of the organization is now in NC. They had no problem paying this year.

in a perfect world, you'd be right.

we are not living in a perfect world.
