For a team that doesn't want sideshows, they have gone about creating a bunch that could've easily been solved by either doing things differently or by just explaining themselves.
Starting with DeflateGate.
Belichick's only public statement was 'ask the qb'. He never backed Brady publicly (even though Kraft did to both back Brady and the league at the same time). As a result most of the league, even those that are not Pats-haters, believes Brady cheated.
Coming to present: McDaniels. Given it was 100% certain McDaniels would receive a great HC offer, how did Kraft or BB not have the forsight to just f'in talk to him and give him the offer they ultimately did. I'm glad the Colts got screwed, but McDaniels and the Pats look terrible cause of it also. Would've also saved McDaniel's time if they had just talked to him before he started interviewing everywhere.
Butler: It obviously wasn't a scheme thing because a player does not go from playing 95%+ of snaps to 0 cause of scheme, especially when the team is getting destroyed.
Had they just said something, without being too specific, it would've been enough for the circus to move on. And whatever it is he did, couldnt have been worse than a player who is capable throwing a team doctor and coaches under the bus, but still getting to start (for a different team) 5 days later.
Geurerro. Brady's documentary has Brady's buddy chastising Edelman for doing bench presses. Geurrero has been kicked out. Something happenned. Again, BB can simply say he disagrees with the guys approach and players will be treated by the team. If they decide to also seek second opinions, that's their right. And move on.
Kraft/baby thing is another distraction obviously.
Sh&t is just piling up now, and their approach to it is actually causing more rumors instead of less.
