Belichick: "We need more production offensively, period"

Multiple good offenses have 40 TE catches so far. The Pats are dead last with only 6 total. This is a HUGE problem. McDaniels' has been terrible at developing TEs and WRs. Our only good TEs and WRs ever, were all developed by O'Brien and Weiss (Gronk, Edelman, Branch, Givens). Nobody since 2012 when McD came back. The 2011 St Louis Rams were also dead last in TE production and also 32nd (last) in offense points.

Maybe throw Harry the damn ball and see if he can outmuscle DB's for the ball.....kind of like what he was known for coming out of the draft. I'm mean, I can't imagine him being double covered or getting attention from the defenses best CB.

If you're waiting for these guys to miraculously start gaining separation on DB's before throwing the ball, that's the definition of insanity. This group was the worst at gaining separation from DB's in 2019.

First it was jet sweeps and now Harry is a run blocker?

While Daniel Graham wasn't what we had hoped for, he was very solid in the early years. And Watson had his moments.

Both also drafted under Weiss. Watson didn't do a whole lot from 05-08 w McD. And again nobody from 2012-now

Yeah I was most disappointed in Watson from '07 until he left. With all the attention on Moss and Welker, it was hard to believe he couldn't emerge as threat in the middle of the field taking on slower LB's during that time.

I don't know man, I feel like their best course of action is to just ride this year out with what they have, saving all their assets for next year. I know the skills position players are terrible and should've been upgraded a couple of years ago, but even if we get a decent tight end and a WR, are we really a superbowl level team? If not, then it is probably not a good idea to ship out picks for a half season rental. The only deals I would want are low cost rentals, like maybe a seventh round pick for John Ross. It is essentially buying lottery tickets and hoping we can get something out of it. This team can least afford another 2nd round pick for Sanu type trades.
We can play with any team at our best. This has already been proven in my opinion with our battles with Seattle/Kansas City. We beat Kansas City IMO with Cam. That can be debated and if you disagree that's okay too but if we trade for Odell and get a competent tight end? Yeah I think we can go deep. Superbowl? I can't say. However not trading for anybody basically tells me this season is over.

I will be honest, and pardon me for being pessimistic here, but I don't think Belichick ever wanted to content this year. I mean, we avoided talented players at all positions left and right in free agency like they are the plague for a reason, and it is not because he thinks Ryan Izzo can help him get to a superbowl. With all the talent exodus we had in free agency and covid opt out, add in the fact that we have, shall we say, not drafted particularly well the last few years, this team just doesn't have the talent needed to make a superbowl run. It just feels like Belichick's primary goal for the season is to do our best, force feed Michel/Harry/whatever other young players they have and hope they can grow, then try to compete next year.

Yeah, ok. Hyperbole much?

you think 271 yards in 12 career games is good from any draft pick?

I guess you’re right though. If he was a 6th or 7th round pick we wouldn’t be surprised he’s so bad.

I think Belichick wants to win. I don't see him as a man that would give up on a season. I could agree with he'd be okay if they didn't make a run and is trying his best. However, I do believe he's trying to win a championship despite knowing the talent might not be there.

I think they should give a more free reign to zuber to go vertical and have gunner run edelman routes. Play edelman sparingly and utilize harry as either a tight end or move the chains receiver with very simple corner routes with 1 on 1 coverage and check if he can beat the coverage . If he does not make the cut accept the losses, move on and pin hopes on next draft and hire some great wr scout from the steelers.

No point making a trade when our chance of playoffs seem remote. Better to gamble on AB than anybody else.

I think its way too early to say we can't make playoffs. Just a game or two ago we were saying we can compete with anybody. If we lose to the 49ers I guess I will be willing to accept it however let's give this team one more chance.

Agree... I am just saying the chances look remote with the current skillset. Better to absorb the losses for this year and start afresh next year. I think this is the year to find out the diamond in the rough players. And that means getting creative and deviating from script. I am just not confident we will be having a fairy tale second half season with our current approach. Time for personnel roulette.

Trading for a receiver or TE this year with question marks all around make no sense. Considering cap we should just sign Ab to a 1 year contingent deal .

Yeah, we just need production - that's the best way to put it.

Tune-up Cam's mechanics again, get the OL healthy, get the ball in Zuber's hands more. Work Gunner into the slot a bit more and try to get him the ball on quick screens. Byrd has been consistent, so keep looking his way. Harry ... I don't know. I like the idea of getting him the ball on end-arounds, screens, and fades to see if you can get him going but it's not looking good right now. Edelman is Edelman - tricky balance between squeezing the lemon to get production out of him vs. saving his body.

Outside of that, save for Asiasi/Keene making an appearance, there isn't a lot to work with. A trade is basically necessary at this point, and good god does the personnel department need to re-evaluate their drafting of WRs in every sense.
Passing on Metcalf and AJ Brown. Could’ve had them both...oof.

The passing game looked best with Stidham I said it
This ^

I'd prefer at some point they get healthy, Stidham starts and proves he is a legitimate NFL QB and precision passer, the rookie TE's begin to contribute heavily and the much maligned WR's miraculously find talent with much more accurate downfield passing, they make an impact trade on defense along the defensive front or Carl Davis becomes a revelation to pair with Guy and the rookie defenders improve mightily... beyond health, this team needs nothing else.

If all these things come to fruition, this team is talented enough to make noise in the playoffs regardless of where they're seeded. Kind of a big ask, but possible. I wrote this entire season off as a re-loading year, if they can turn it into a productive young exciting team by season's end I will be satisfied. I want to see improvement and enjoy the process. So far we're seeing the grind without the payoff, let's start to see the payoff.

If you can't practice or even partially... start Stidham. He may suck, he may not... but he knows the playbook, maybe more than Cam, and can pass better if he can reign in the INT's. Opponents won't be able to overload the box to stop the run if the QB can make them pay for it.

Cam can't do it with a simplified game plan or calling traditional drop back plays. If Stidham sucks, go back to Cam and limp through this season trying to improve the youth for next year. You won't know who your starting QB is next year, but at least you'll know who isn't.

Nick Caley, Mick Lombardi. Time to step up is now. You can do it.

Probably nothing we don't already know but either of these guys would be a nice upgrade if they're available. Also looks like we have some competition too for receivers.

Pats can contend for sure but they need help. Glad Bill sees they're not up to par right now that tells me help in some form is on the way. That Broncos game should never happen again.
