How do you compare Bill to someone like Lombardi? He took over a 1-10 Packer team and then rolled off 5 NFL titles in 7 seasons. Then he won the first 2 SBs. Then you have guys like Paul Brown and George Halas who innovated much of what we see in modern football. Bill Walsh who devised the West Coast offence.

I think it’s fair to say Bill is the best coach of his era and among the best ever, but it’s very hard to compare him to the greats of past eras.

Yeah. That's where I'm at too - with the caveat that the final pages of BB's story haven't been written yet.

I like thinking that BB really is GOAT. But only because I'm a Patriots fan.

Unlike Brady being the GOAT, I don't think there is an absolute right or wrong answer to who is the best head coach of all time. You can make a convincing argument for all the guys you listed.

But before Brady became the GOAT and now has broken basically every record and has seven rings, the question of who is the best QB ever and who is the best player ever was similar to the best head coach ever where you could make valid arguments for a few different players.
