An apology to the media? The Bill Belichick we know and love would never do that.

Kidding of course. Interesting though. tbh, I like the fact that he's able to do that.

Maybe just playing the media up for that coach of the year award. Gotta do what ya gotta do. LOL

He doesn't have much practice at it, though... could have been a lot worse...

Felger and Mazz now have their material for this week...

Completely understandable from BB.
Down 20-0 and gave up 225 rushing yards.

He has 2 kids on staff so probably realized this was the right thing to do as a good example. Good for BB.

Nothing to see here

I wouldn't apologize to those jackals. Sports journalists as a profession is pond scum.
They are an essential part of professional sports. Also, the vast majority of them simply do their jobs and report facts. The “jackals” usually arent the journalists, they tend to be broadcasters. I’m happy BB is treating the press like people lately.

Wow... that was incredible. I really liked that he answered even the "stupid" questions. On his best day, he usually avoids those. I think the journalists were probably in heaven when he answered some of them. The "Why did you kick a field goal" even got an answer. Just... wow.

The comments section of The Athletic's article on this are pretty funny.

Belichick doesn't want to give the reporters any bulletin board material for the next press conference

@Chris C. Evidence suggests he was kidnapped at the end of the 3rd quarter.

@PETER W. I actually think there is some truth to this. Perhaps he is finally aging/mellowing/becoming comfortable enough with his success that he does need to jerk people around quite as much. Scotty Bowman followed a similar path in his last few years coaching.

It's ok Bill, it's the media and they don't deserve much respect as is. Nice gesture regardless though.

How does one define a "curt" response from Belichick?

Phil Belichik, folks.

BB is nobody's fool, he apologizes and there isn't a week's worth of his players being asked about how pissed off he is. It's not as though he meant it or even worse, smiled and shook hands with the press. He just worked 'em and moved on.
