Bedard: There was second guessing about Mayo over summer and him getting a second year isn't guaranteed

No way. Mayo is fired before end of year. Not only is that bat **** crazy but makes Kraft look like clown, not to mention the $$
I don't want him fired.. but if the team keeps trending like this I believe it is imminent unfortunately.

The only reason to fire midway is if locker room including vets go against mayo.

I still net out that we are witnessing what happens with bad teams and firing Mayo at this point means there really is no plan.

Point made! If we were 4-3, or 3-4 none of this talk would exist

Wolf has no authority to fire mayo. The way the structure is set up mayo reports to ownership. If Mayo gets canned so does wolf.
I get that. I simply think Mayo likely gets a second year, but ownership should move on from Wolf.

McAdoo is your answer? Seriously? The guy is a clown.
OK, please list the Hc's who would come in mid-season to be the patriots interim coach, knowing that will gone at year's end when new coaches and coaches are chosen.
========
McAdoo is NOT a clown. He is someone who could be the interim coach. An interim coach almost always is chosen from within.

I really don't see the purpose in firing Mayo unless he did something criminal. Who is taking over that would really accomplish anything? If Mayo truly is a mess I'd just let him finish out the year.

Anyone who strikes out on pick #34, #68, #90+ should be on the hot seat.
Anyone who evaluates draft picks before half their rookie season is over shouldn't be considered when looking for serious analysis.

There is no point in firing Mayo for McAdoo. Not to mention firing a rookie coach during the 1st year is a really bad look. It makes the Pats look incompetent, impatient and dysfunctional and may make potential coaches think twice about joining.

Named Maye the starter
Did he? Was that, in fact, his decision? Or was it forced on him by JB's beyond atrocious play? Or by Kraft? Has he been advocating for it all season and finally they relented? It's unclear.

Regardless, I don't think that clears the bar, especially since NOT playing him was equally defensible (at the time).

I want Mayo fired but this makes no sense why fire him in the middle of the week just before a game ?
Minihane is a turd stirrer of the highest order. I need someone else with some cred to report this.

???

Kraft can fire Mayo without firing Wolf. IMO, firing Wolf because the 2024 drafted players haven't worked out yet, and because he signed Okorafor makes exactly ZERO sense in the middle of the season. IMO, Wolf is more likely to be promoted than fired. We have our QB and $140M of cap space to sign those who will support him. He will get better players who will know who the QB is.

Mayo's performance so far has been spectacularly awful. Sure, the team can wait until the bye or until the day after the season ends. However, unless there are large improvements, it seems likely that Mayo will be gone. The situation somewhat reminds me of last year after the game in Germany.

The plan, as best I can make out, for this season has never been about winning games. It's been: 1) to draft and play young guys and find the core of the team going forward, 2) get coaches around Maye who can develop him so he can take the steps forward that we need him to, 3) resign the players on defense who have been a strength in the last year or so, 4) develop Mayo as a coach, 5) develop Covington as a DC.

Everything about the coaching has been a nightmare so far. I think they have until the end of the season to get that pointed upward.

I know people are mad on here because we didn't sign more big-cost vets, but I don't think that was ever Wolf's plan or anyone's except Mayo's. I think Wolf is sticking to his plan of cheap young guys and see what is worth building around. Maye seems like a hit. I think that might be enough for Wolf to survive if Mayo gets fired.

Maybe Kraft lets Wolf hire the next HC. Maybe not.

Promoting your LB coach to HC, without interviewing other candidates, because he led a prayer group in Isreal and gave you a cool nickname, is the very definition of having no plan.

Firing Mayo after he clearly demonstrated he has no clue what he's doing, and has no plan to improve the team, is just admitting you made a mistake & is much a more responsible course of action than throwing away good money after bad, by throwing away two seasons instead of one.
