Bedard: There was second guessing about Mayo over summer and him getting a second year isn't guaranteed

I don't buy this at all. Culture comes from the players and coaches, not from losing. If this were the case, teams wouldn't bounce back from multiple losing seasons and win.

I watched the Red Sox '04 documentary last night and they singled out the cultural differences that made losers into winners. It had to do with individuals and their approach to standards and culture.

Think about the 2 years prior to the '01 Super Bowl. Losing, but behind the scenes creating the culture of champions.
I respect your opinion but I'm relating this to the past few seasons. When a team loses especially in consecutive seasons, with new generation of players is easy for a losing mentality to set in. 4-13, no this season has gone totally off the rails. It's just losing. Losing in any sport allows a mentality and attitude to permeate is what I'm stating.

Whoa. How much confidence do people have in Minihane's reporting? I haven't been following him.

Anyone who strikes out on pick #34, #68, #90+ should be on the hot seat.
I agree, but someone who was completely unproven and had no significant coaching experience at any level -- and no track record of winning and success -- was elevated to HC to replace one of the greatest coaches of all time. That was the height of stupidity and an egregious excess of ego by BK. I don't trust him to make the right calls. I'll be very surprised if Wolf gets ejected from the Patriots bus, which is a shame because they absolutely had to rebuild through the draft.

What if there is player mutiny after jerod's comments and zero buy in . Do they continue with Jerod till end of season or do they cut losses and go with an interim HC.

It looks to be a major gaffe , the way I. Which he was hired and the way he has interacted with media and the way he comes across during game day. Sad state of affairs.

Also, I feel like it’s worth mentioning - this team has been absolutely rocked with injuries to a ridiculous degree. You might be wondering, is their strength and conditioning coach doing a bad job? Who is in charge of the team being in good shape?

Oh, right, it’s Jerod Mayo’s brother, Deron Mayo. “Head Strength & Conditioning Coach”. Previously the assistant coach until his brother became the HC and he got a promotion to run that show too due to family relation. Now everyone’s hurt.
Hopefully Kraft is learning that nepotism only makes sense when the positions don't matter and the damage will be local. He's definitely lost about 15 miles on his fastball since he canned BB.

So he knew this since the summer but says nothing for months? Ok

Yep, if what he is doing with Goff is any indication, what he would do with Maye might be off the charts. Maye in two games has proven he can do the following A) go through his progressions quickly B) after doing so, make the right decision on what to do almost 100 percent of the time. C) He can run the no huddle. D) Diagnose the pressure pre snap E) Understand what to do with the ball pre snap. F) Know what to do with the ball post snap.

Thats the stuff that elite QBs can do. Put Maye in offense where guys are getting open left and right, he might throw 60 TDs. I haven't seen someone that I have been as impressed with so early as I was with Brady. Maye has some Brady traits..or at least stuff that makes me go hmmmm this might end up being something really really good.
He has hallmarks of greatness. I don't want to get carried away, but it's hard not to. Doing what he's doing, despite the dysfunction, lack of protection, good coaching (AVP sucks), a running game, and weapons is seriously impressive. It's what truly great players do.

I'm opposed to purposely losing for draft picks but this appears to be natural tanking so bring on the draft picks! Also, I was thinking about if they would hire Vrabel and I seem to remember when he didnt get hired by some other team the word was he wants too much control. Maybe that is why Kraft wont hire him.

I think you are right about their expectations. But to think that BB could not right the ship after 4+ years yet somehow a cherry HC will solve things, is a bit of wishful thinking. The ship was listing port side almost to the deck, and somehow, the newbie HC will get that leak plugged and water pumped out and get it righted. They must have had a LOT more faith in Mayo than BB at the time. And for those of you thinking I'm a BB ball washer or even a Mayo ball washer....I'm a TEAM ball washer. =) I would hope they give him more time. Now if things are going the same way, 1/4 of the way through next year? Definitely time to let em go. It's looking more and more like Mayo's time as an Exec at Optum isn't helping out here. Wonder what his day-to-day looked like there.
As I said elsewhere in this thread, if you can name ONE important thing Mayo has done well this year -- just one -- then I'd consider giving him more time.

You Belicheck fans are hilarious rooting for Mayo to fail. If Mayo went on to be a great HC that would have helped Belicheck's legacy.

If Mayo fails and is fired, then it cements the fact that Belicheck failed to ever produce a successful NFL HC from his coaching tree. In other words, Bill's coaching style is flawed and fails to be successful unless you have the GOAT at QB or GOAT at LB.
I think in addition to Brady it was the Bill Bellichick/Ernie Adams football brain trust and real time communication that worked so well.

I think you can't overlook the impact Scar had as well. Dude was possibly the GOAT oline coach.

Have to wonder how much Ernie Adams factored into Belichick's situational decision making which Bill is the GOAT at.

Glad to see someone point this out. I watched not episodes of earnie Adam on games with names.. the guy is awesome. He was the real brain trust behind the scenes. He needs to be accoladed. Ty law even said bill used to defer to earnie on defensive calls and challenges.
