Bedard: Team thinks Maye has made a huge leap forward this offseason.

I assume Maye is the real deal and will take another step forward this year. But I also am aware that a lot of fans on other teams think Maye was the schedule last year and don't believe he's one of the better real franchise quarterbacks yet. I've also seen Pats fans and Pats reporters feel incredulous that anyone could think that way about Maye. I think this is a prove it season, where Maye cements himself as a legit top 10 QB or he'll continue to be questioned, like Herbert.

I hate to admit it.
I blamed Brady for the lack of development at WR.
I felt he didn’t have the patience to work with young talent.

I think Brady was of the mindset that, if you learn the offense, and are open, he’s gonna find you. Hell, it happened with veterans who couldn’t get it and wound up ignored. Example, Ocho Cinco. Galloway was another.

Then you look at some of the young guys, rookies for example, who did get it, and they got the ball. Gronk, Hernandez, Malcom Mitchell. Hell, Gronk & Hernandez, their 1st season, they caught 86 between them, and then the next year broke the record for a TE tandem that still stands today. Brady was always gonna hit the open man, and to be open, you have to learn the offense and know where to be.

Just need to see that dawg in him come playoff time
Didn't have it his first post season run

I think it was apparent in the playoffs, that despite how great his season was, he and Josh need to figure out the quick passing game for when the OL goes through stretches where it can’t hold up. If that’s where improvements are made, I’ll be very optimistic on that side of the ball
The TB offense always had a really good slot guy and third down back that the offense ran through. I don't know why they haven't employed the Brown/WW/JE11 and Faulk/Woodhead/Sweet-Feet types since he left. It worked so well for a really long time.

I actually believe he's done this already last season. Remember how he started out a bit rocky and as the season went on he flourished.. brought his team back in the 4th of games .. preserved through in-game adversites .. I believe last season he proved his place from the flashes he showed as a rookie.... from this point on it will be about consistently getting better and better.. sky's the limit.

He was bad in the playoffs. I need to see it
Not the entire playoffs. I'd argue his first two games were really good given what was happening with the OL. The tunrovers were a problem. But his movement in the pocket, the throws, the accuracy, the clutch play, they were really good against the Texans and Chargers.

People might want to also remember that after the Patriots won the 2001 Super Bowl, the entire team including Brady had a falloff the next year, even though there was a lot of growth that set the stage for the next 2 years.

Brady didn't have a falloff in 2002. He was a better QB actually than he was in 2001.

He was def really hurt, injured and Will Campbell happened. Could of had Tet or Egbuka.

While I agree, I don't think the NFL world agrees with us yet.

Defensive injuries are what derailed 02.. key guys were hampered with injuries all season and it severely affected the run defense.. is why in the 03 FA period we signed Rosie and Rodney...

Yes, good point.
Although the the offense was not built for shootouts, Tom still found a way to be more aggressive which was why he league in passing TD's. But there were a lot of factors why they were 9-7 in 2002: Their schedule was a gauntlet. 13 of the 16 games were against teams with at least a .500 record. The team philosophy was built on defense, but they were awful. KC laid a blueprint to run at them relentlessly. This led to the load up in 2003. Without Tom's heroics against Chicago, KC, Denver and later Miami in week 17, this was a 6-10 team at best.

What you could argue though is that Tom had some rough moments in 2003 where the defense did a lot of heavy lifting. He did show up when needed in shootouts against Indy, Tennessee, Denver and the most important game in Carolina.

2004 was when Tom was starting to take over whenever he wanted.

He's going to be bashed his entire career because he's not Tom Brady 2.0. I'm sure if we go back, there's guys who bashed Brady as well. Guys complain in an online forum.
Yeah, I need to emphasize this. There were people who spent nearly all of hall of famer Carl Yastrzemski’s career bashing him because he wasn’t Ted Williams.

The kid took a huge lead in the regular season, then didn’t play his best in the playoffs against the best defenses in the NFL. Let’s see what happens. And even then, if he succeeds and ups his game further, his playing style isn’t the same as Brady’s. And it can’t and shouldn’t be. He can and should incorporate some elements of Brady’s game for sure, but he needs to work to his strengths and not someone else’s.

I'm not sure NESN is going to convince the rest of the NFL.
Im actually suprised local media had something positive to say.. Hopefully it's not a hex LOL.. fortunately we have the right coach to constantly give them reminders.. all camp long..

Drake had to learn 4 offenses in 4 years. This is the first time he has a chance to build on what he learned in the 1st go around. That by itself will be huge.

I would hope he's better now that it's his second year in McD's system.

And that Lifer OC Josh McDaniels: will Never get another HC opportunity. So maybe Drake can go on a Brady like tear with that stability.
