Bedard: Team thinks Maye has made a huge leap forward this offseason.

I think he will be. We saw a nice second year leap... now it's time for the third year leap.
Agreed, I have faith. He seems like a really smart kid.

It’s up to Josh to hammer it into him. The short play that extends the drive is more important than the big attempt that doesn’t.

….an under 25 year old runner up in both the MVP and SB is being bashed by some.

We’ll see how it goes : there is no question that steep competition (the best Ds in the league) found a way to limit Maye in the playoffs. Hopefully new weapons, better protection, and experience keep the QB trending upwards for the next few years.

I’m hopeful.

He's going to be bashed his entire career because he's not Tom Brady 2.0. I'm sure if we go back, there's guys who bashed Brady as well. Guys complain in an online forum.

He was bad in the playoffs. I need to see it
After 2025 there are reels of film on Maye having success.

All that is being broken down this offseason and some DC will crack the code on how to stop Maye. Weakness in the NEP OL is a great starting point.

it's a top 5-10 OL in the league.
Three #1 draft picks. Two very solid vet's. the highest rated OC in his draft class

First off, Maye took off running much of 2025 not being sacked and saving the NE OL bacon.

Top 10 OL without stepping on the field? Everything looks awesome on paper until it gets real.

if X is to be believed, it looked like Maye and the Mrs were on a very extended vacation.
I think that is overrated. He just was more public about especially since a few of the trips were branding efforts for each. Just because he showed up for the weekend to play golf somewhere doesn't mean he wasn't working hard all week up to that break.

And I think she went on a few trips without him for her brand.

Tom was so good at that. The ball was out of his hands before the ends could even turn the corner.
Gotta remember it took a couple of painful SB losses and post age 30 for Tom to really master that.

Looking forward to Maye making strides there but not Bradylike yet, if ever (which is fine).

Josh needs to get Drake to reverse the order of his reads. Instead of disliking being “Checkdown Charlie” Drake should be striving yo be “Quickdraw Drake Maye” treating the quick short passing game like it’s a long handoff complementing the running game. Use that to set up the deep kill shots.

Last year it seemed screens and the short passing game were much less effective parts of the Patriots offense than they were during the glory days. If Drake can get the offense clicking on that part of the game things will look much better.

Best part of it, I think he can do it with or without AJ Brown.
**** yeah... speed kills

I have no doubt he will continue to improve: the embarrassments on the SB run are fuel for him and the offensive coaching staff. Not just tape for opponents.

These Patriots are not ones to just give up and cry. They are fighters.

Expect them to punch Seattle in the mouth.

OF COURSE Maye is going to be better in his 2nd year in Josh's offense, but that doesn't mean he has mastered it. At best he's still in the elementary school phases of his learning process. The GOAT was 7 full seasons in the offense and 3 Superbowl wins before he had his "breakout" season in 2007 where he shed his title of "game manager". Plus, it took several MORE seasons before he famously uttered "I have all the answers to the test".

Drake Maye is not even ****ing 25 years old yet. There are rookies older than him, and he is JUST entering his 3rd year of his career. He has SOOOOOOO much more to learn and improve on. The kind of career that he has will depend on just how much drive he has to continually improve even into his 2nd decade in the league like Brady manically did. THAT will differentiate Maye from being "just" a very talented QB to being an all-time great like Brady.

I'll be gone before we find out the answer to that question, so I'll hope someone here will find me in the afterlife and let me know how he turned out in about a decade.

The big difference this time around against Seattle is that I think this time we will be able to run on their (elite) nickel formation. A real high-end FB and a better OL (big on the right side and super athletic on the left) plus better blocking TEs will open up the field some and maybe even force them into base. Henderson won't have to think much - just follow the FB and decide which way to cut. Play-action and screens come to life.

This isn’t exactly groundbreaking news. It’s expected that he makes a leap this season as a young QB. He seems like a bright guy and I’m sure he’s been putting in the work watching film and getting physically stronger.

But we really won’t know to what extent Maye’s improved until training camp when he’s working behind the new OL and meshing with the new WRs/TEs.

Absolutely correct and adding a defense with a real Free safety that won't miss tackles, and a pass rush that can actually touch Darnold's jersey this time around...
