We've attempted 35 FGs from 50+ yards in the last 212 games, dating back to the beginning of Gostkowski's career.

I'm not against adding talent to the roster if the right opportunity presents itself, but I'm not doing it because I'm worried about the outcome of a play that happens once every six games on average.
