Should have drafted Lamar Jackson in 2018 with one of two first round picks instead of a backup college RB and a fat unspectacular tackle
LOL...

Kraft was livid at him for drafting Garoppolo; he was not about to make that mistake again.

The idea of drafting another QB when Brady is clamoring for WR help was not going to go over big in 2018

Now unless we get a new GM and offensive minded HC nobody of note would come here.

Don't think Krafts will fire both wolf and Mayo. There is a risk that new ones will also mirror existing performance or be worse off. They will punt on the hope that wolf and Mayo will be better this year. I just think there is no option honestly for them unless Brian Johnson says he is interested and willing to come if he has 3 years and GM of his say. Unlikely, but thats the only scenario which will get Mayo and wolf fired .

Both Mayo and Wolf know they will be judged on this season and if things don't improve , they will be fired. So with some fire in their belly, I hope coaching and drafting will improve and we might have some luck too in drafting.

Now coming into fall guys, I think they will definitely want an experienced DC. So they will probably overpay for a DC like Saleh hoping to get them in for a crucial litmus test. If the defense improves they will be credited. As for Mayo, his success hinges on draft and that off DC. No decent OC will join under Mayo. So Mayo would need AVP more than AVP needs him. They will be hoping AVP to get better and tbh, his play calling has slightly improved. So let's hope AVP continues to grow and Maye gets better opportunities.

The goal for this season is to bring the team to a 7 - 9 win team .

For ticket sales to happen some changes need to happen. I expect these

1. Covington and wide receivers coach will be fired. There is a chance Scott peters is also let go.
2. Groh might be let go to show some optics on front office
3. Sign tee Higgins in free agency.
4. Sign McMillan or Hunter in draft.

This year is about optics . They can't look stupid by trading down and grabbing. Strange level of player in weak draft class.

I have come to the realization that Krafts screwed by hiring remnants and we need to allow for 2 years for it to completely dissolve on its own or to rise up from the ashes like Phoenix. Unlikely but that's where we are. When I as a casual fan can see it, Krafts also know that. They know they have screwed up and will just be hoping Mayo can resurrect, else they will be making a coaching change 10 weeks into season .

At this point the focus should be that maye does not regress. Winning is secondary now. Just build around maye and hope you get a core of 10 players from existing 5.

No player decides whether to go to a franchise or not the GM. They decide on money and fit, and money is usually the deciding factor.

I think you’re getting your wish. Some position coaches will probably be replaced. Maybe they can AVP too, but if they’re going to run it back, they should run it all back and spend in FA.

I think Wolf will spend heavy in this free agency period. Offensive line and defensive line will get the most attention, but expect a high priced WR as well. I would like to see them trade a 4th for Deebo, then draft a WR to add to the unit. I dint want Wolf giving Tee Higgins #1 $$$$, he’s not a 1, and it’s a stupid way to use resources.

Then you should have drafted Alabama Star Calvin Ridley instead of roly poly plodder, Isiah Wynn.

In any case, you had a disgruntled 41 year old QB on the last year of his contract. You had two first round picks. A super stud QB incredulously fell to you at 31. It was time to rebuild for life after Brady. Taking a backup college running back over Lamar is inexcusable and borderline negligence

Kraft, I remind you, wanted to fire Belichick after that season, and in particular it was about expending resources on a non-starting position.

Calvin Ridley? Would not call that guy a success, given what we've seen from him over the years.

Lastly, that backup RB did this...

71 runs, 336 yards, 4.73 avg., 6 TDs in 3 playoff games against the Chargers, Chiefs, and Rams which contributed to a Super Bowl victory.

Worth it for that alone!

That backup running back had bigger holes than Swiss cheese. The best O line I have ever seen. Anyone could have run like that in the postseason. His vastly superior college teammate would have been a 7 time pro bowler for the patriots, Nick Chubb. Should have went him if you wanted an RB.

Ridley had 10 touchdowns as a rookie and 1400 yards in his 3rd year. We would kill for that type of production from one of our scrub WRs. Who knows what Ridley accomplishes with Brady. Probably puts up insane numbers.

Don’t like him? Could have gone DJ Moore, a perennial pro bowl WR from Maryland. Brady would have loved either of them over Humpty Dumpty isiah Wynn.

Awful drafting and management by Belichick!!!

I remember him saying in 2019 that Josh Allen was a huge bust and the Bills were stuck with him.

But he is right on this one

You're the best drafter I've ever seen other than me.

Watch how I would've drafted in 2018:

1. All-Pro
2. Hall of Famer
3. All-Pro
4. Pro Bowl
5. Pro Bowl

While i admire your acerbic wit, none of this is hindsight. All this material was there. Posters on this forum wanted those players. BB wanted to go rogue and be the smartest guy in the room again. Pretentiousness and arrogance got the best of him

Do you seriously believe you know more about football than the man who knows 100x more about football than anyone whoever lived?

No, but I am intelligent enough to understand very poor drafting which has led us to the bottom of the barrel. These decisions were fueled by incompetence and arrogance. It doesn’t take a quantum physics major to understand that. The cronyism and nepotism displayed were so concise it was almost palpable.

Ps I’ve read before, thanks for rehashing.

Belichick the arrogant and incompetent!

What an amazing take.

People in the forums make 1,000 suggestions. In hindsight, those suggestions are always right, never wrong.

The fact you're going back to 2018 and complaining about a guy that performed really well in the playoffs and Super Bowl, in a year when they WON the Super Bowl, this says everything!

The incompetent and arrogant GM/Coach lead the team, with those players, to a Super Bowl victory where they gave up 3 points to one of the top offenses in NFL history!

Do you realize how insane your narrative sounds?

There really haven’t been times much worse than this.

I’m not sure what your reason for optimism is. You say there is no talent and that makes you optimistic? Then you talk about mass firings being need and that makes you optimistic? Having a lot of cap room because you’ve spent 2 years not spending it doesn’t seem like a reason for optimism to me it sounds more like evidence we aren’t trying.
Not spending is something completely different than coaching, this team lacks talent.. If I read Mr. Kraft's displeasure correctly he might open the purse strings to find talent that would make this team more competent.
I have been an optimist all throughout my Pats fandom, if I wasn't I would have hopped on another train..

My narrative is pretty clear

- Brady’s play covered up a lot of Belichick’s GM mistakes
- Brady was the primary reason we won those super bowls
- Belichick the coach is great. Belichick the GM no so great.
- Belichick post 2017 made some of the biggest GM blunders and worst draft day decisions which led to our demise

Bottom line: surround Drake Maye with explosive weapons at the skilled positions or be prepared for future 5 win seasons

Bedard is sort of a cold fish, not the sort of fella you'd wanna have beers with: I I get it; but this article is 100% on the money. It certainly describes how I feel, and the suggestion that many fans are about fed up with what is now years of nonsense and ******** describes me perfectly. I suspect the Krafts still care, but they act as if if they no longer give a ****, and to my surprise, after decades, I find myself feeling the same, at least from time to time.

Fiddling around with hiring advisors and hoping this raft of incompetents will "grow into the job" ain't gonna get it. I'm pissed, and I'm not alone.

Quarterback aside, we are the worst team in the league. Think about that: the worst coaches, the worst roster, the worst front office, and - it just might be - the worst owners.

... and that is quite a fall from the days where we were the envy of the league - so much so that everyone hated us. Now we are basement dwellers keeping company with the Jete... quite a plummet...

That's the kind of day-starter rant I can appreciate after a holiday respite!

They need to sign at least 5-6 mid-range to high end free agents, develop the players they drafted in 2024 (Robinson, Wallace), plus hit on at least 5-6 draft picks UDFAs. That’s a pretty tall order.

Either they run the whole thing back or they fire all of them. Scapegoating a coach or two doesn’t cut it.

Before signing FAs they need to identify them. There's the fail point. Wolf has shown no capacity to identify sign-worthy talent. Ditto on the development front. Who on this coaching staff has shown the capacity to coach up anyone aside from AVP on Maye?
