Titled “Dear Robert and Jonathan, here’s a reality check”…
I don't often agree with Blowhard Bedard. But this time... he's actually right.

The succession plan to Belichick sucked and the Patriots never held serious searches for the best new GM and Head coach possible.

This needs to change if the Patriots are to reverse their fortunes.

It's time to call this experiment what it is, a failure.

Blow the whole thing up. Conduct serious intensive searches for the best Head Coach, GM, and coordinators possible, then step aside and let them do their job. Just write the damn checks when they ask for it and let brilliant football people carry this organization forward into a new era.

We're not even competitive right now, neophytes and leftover remnants from failed years have been put in charge and this once storied 6x Superbowl Champion franchise has become a joke.

Whose to say Chubb wouldn’t have run through those gigantic holes created by the o line in the 2018 playoffs?
Didn't Chubb destroy his knee in College. Obviously still the wrong choice but at the time it wasn't so crazy.

There are always going to be draft misses. The point for any NFL management team is to be honest, admit the mistake, and correct the misses the best way possible. As you note, that is what the team did.

Something changed later when the misses happened, the team did not correct for the misses in the 2020s. The 2024 draft, with the exception of Maye, might be a complete miss. Do you think they will try to correct for that in FA?
Our fans really need to look around the NFL at the 40% hit rate for starters. People look at all the draft busts as though that's a rare thing around the league. Instead, it's the rule. You need to pull 3 eventual starters from every draft. That's par for the course in the NFL.

But even some of the draft busts ended up starting well for other teams after we cut them (Darius Butler and Hjalte Froholdt).

Speaking of Chubb, isn’t he a free agent this offseason?
Just broke his foot. Should command bottom of the barrel dollars.

There's more talent in our front 7 than other positions especially if Barmore and Bentley are back so it might not be our biggest need but I do agree that for whatever reasons they aren't playing well and might be playing even worse than our OL or WR groups.
Barmore’s career is over

Yeah, I mean great post. There is the underlining question we all want answered. How can we get out of this mess? 6 years without a playoff win. We stink out there!
I think you start by having an actual hiring process in which you emphasize competence and experience rather than promising the job to some charming travel companion and adopting an "Oh well, we know the guy" approach to GM/front office. The Krafts handled the post-Bill transition about as sloppily, self-indulgently, and unprofessionally as can be imagined.

We need a clean sweep: OBVIOUSLY. If the Krafts aren't interested in acknowledging their failures and putting things right, they should sell the team to somebody who can.

Barmore’s career is over
Has this been reported anywhere? Obviously not a good sign with him going on the non-football list again but I haven't seen any reports that state he has no chance to play again. For all we know he just needed a minor tweak to his meds. Do we even know for sure if he had another clot or did they just put him back on thinners.

Again obviously he has some tough odds to beat but other than speculation based on how scary this stuff sounds I haven't seen any real reports that state he has to retire now.

Should the Krafts do a clean sweep and start again the right way? Yes. Will they? No.

The problem is they’re invested in Mayo and Wolf now and it’s really hard to throw that money away. It’s not as simple as re-doing last year but hiring Vrabel or doing a real search now, despite what fans want. They have to decide, beyond any doubt, that Wolf and Mayo can’t do it.

It’s like if you married someone and regret it. It’s not as simple as going back and marrying who you should have or dating more. Now you get to go through the divorce process. Are the Krafts ready to divorce Mayo and Wolf?

So that is unfortunately going to take more than one season.

I think if the Krafts feel so emotionally tied to Mayo that it feels like a marriage then they have gone far astray from their roles as owners. The head coach is an employee, it shouldn’t be any more complex than that.

Patriots fans and BB who who always try to justify the Sony pick. Newsflash Sony Michel is not in this League anymore: what a surprise.

BB certainly never said anything like that.

And I, like I'm sure most other fans would agree plenty of other backs could have done what Sony did but nothing wrong with pointing out that it was in fact Sony who did it. He had an impressive playoff run. Has Chubb done that in the playoffs yet?
