BB knows how to judge CB's- JC Jackson benched for poor play on MNF

Not mentioned is the "first big contract" let down. Hundreds of examples out there...and especially for UDFA guys the self-motivational aspect can decline: "I don't have to prove anything anymore - look at this contract I just signed".

Prior to the draft, bb had a bunch of meetings with jack jones. Whatever jones put on tape, it caught bb’s eye big time!

I do not think bb has lost anything on his talent identification skill set. I put him in the top 10 in the nfl at it!

Hopefully, we keep that 3rd round comp pick for them signing Jackson!

2011 NFL Draft Belichick told Dimitroff to stay put at # 27 and select WR Jonathan Baldwin instead of trading up for WR Julio Jones because Baldwin was just as good.

After some general draft conversation, Dimitroff and Belichick get into the specifics of the Falcons-Browns trade,” Holley writes.

“‘Thomas, I’m just telling you as a friend,’ Belichick says, ‘I wouldn’t do it.’

“Belichick has a couple good reasons for his analysis and he’s willing to share. He often says that the primary job of a receiver is to simply get open and catch the ball, and he doesn’t like what he sees from Jones in either department. He thinks the receiver struggles to get open on intermediate routes, doesn’t play as fast as his superb timed speed suggests, and too often displays inconsistent hands. There’s also the issue of value. When Belichick began studying the 2011 draft, he saw great depth at the receiver position. Why go all-out for someone like Jones when you can likely have a Jonathan Baldwin, who, as far as Belichick can see, is just as good if not better than Jones?

- According Michael Holley’s book, “War Room: The Legacy of Bill Belichick and the Art of Building the Perfect Team”

I think Rham was an incredible pick. We'll see about Strong and K. Harris going forward.
Rham is 3rd leading rusher in the AFC and is on pace to be the 2nd back to break 1,000 yards. He has a very good chance to being the best back drafted by Bill.

Mr. aINT on the field.

Don't think it's complacency with the contract, because if that were so, he'd have just collected his paycheck from the tub instead of rushing back while still hurt.

So to me, his performance is due more to injury, although there could be a sprinkling of bad scheme fit to it.

JC did a lot of things for the Pats and I sure as hell ain't gonna bash him. There were endless debates here about him being "elite," but there's no doubt he is at least good. We've all seen what truly bad CBs can look like in NE, and Jackson wasn't it.

He may not be the greatest drafter but he seems to know when to let a player go in UFA
Now that the draft seems to have a more per say " collective " process according to the team. Going back to 2020 the last few drafts have been solid.. it's easy to point out the draft bust however, BB has Hit on alot of drafted players.

JC Jackson is a great ball hawk, great tackler however he's not a Number 1 corner, at best a dam good 2.. Jack Jones , this kid is the real deal.. he'll continue to ascend.. anyway the chargers are probably the NFLs biggest tease team. They will never play to thier full potential with or without JC Jackson.
It was really more like 2005-2012, with some years being better than others. Asante was a ballhawk who also gave up plays, which you could also say about JC Jackson (and Jack Jones). Leigh Bodden had one good year. Rookie McCourty was a Pro Bowl CB before second year McCourty became a terrible CB and then became an elite FS. But overall, that position during the era between Law and Talib was just a bunch of "smurfs", as this board always called them.

I also think Jackson is going to bounce back when fully healthy. Might just be in a bad system too, no idea what the Chargers run.
JC is a man coverage corner, that's what he excelled at alongside steph, he's asked to Play zone in LA. Not his strong suit. However he was and is a ball hawk, Excellent tackler something assante Samuel was never.. JC didn't show up like the greats did against upper echelon recievers, Diggs ate him up all the time.. I still believe JC is a great player just not a **** down guy.. they have to allow him to play man to maximize all is talents.. however I think from what I'm seeing I'll take Jack Jones going forward!

Last two drafts were pretty strong, maybe as good as Buffalo’s 2017-20 drafts if you don't count Allen.

Yeah, even the 2020 draft with the two bad 3rd round tight end misses, we drafted two of our top core players and potential pro bowlers in Onwenu and Dugger.

That's an astounding rate of success, when compared to NFL averages.

For everyone who is in on the "let's bring him back after he's cut" or "let's trade for him" bandwagon, his contract: J.C. Jackson

Don’t think anyone is advocating bringing him back in a scenario with that contract. Sometimes players just find their way back by other means down the road. He very well may be obsolete if Jack Jones keeps progressing and another hit at cb with upcoming drafts.

There are posts in this thread that suggest both - trading for him (which means keeping the contract in place) or picking him up next year after the Chargers cut him, which was one reason I posted the contract, because the dead money in that scenario is pretty debilitating to roster development.

Funny you say that because I almost pointed out that 2019 wasn’t a bad draft either.

Don't believe from what I read anyone on the post is advocating to bring JC back, he was an undafted, practice squad player who worked hard and showed he could play at a high level.

He would have been at least a 2nd round pick if not for his off field issues in college.

I advocate for all the players to get paid so I don't blame JC for taking the contract. He knows he'll likely never see this type of contract again.

It does kind of feel like Malcolm butler, leave the patriots and struggle on other teams. He just really was never a #1 at best he was a number 2 corner that benefited from Flores defense and having steph lock down number 1 receivers..

I just can't get the images out my head of him being roasted time after time by Diggs.

This is what we as fans wanted to see. And due to us winning so much for so long we never got to see the team go through a rebuild, draft and develop players.. however the last few drafts have been very impressive.. I didn't ever think I'd see these many rookies and 2nd year players making such an immediate impact. It's just so rare in the NFL.

The guy im most excited about is Jack Jones
Just love this kids attitude, his deamonor his confidence.. he's got velcro coverage on receivers.. barmore has been a force but he's commanding double teams is why wise and judon are making plays..

Tyquan is just getting started I think RB's Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris are good picks too what a haul. A couple of good Drafts can turn a franchise around for the better.
