He may not be the greatest drafter but he seems to know when to let a player go in UFA

Same happened to Malcolm Butler when he got let go basically...

Gilmore also was thought to he a massive overpay by the media when he signed.

Not sure what changed. But since 2012 when they got talib they gave had good CBs

He started finally going after height and man coverage players

No more 5’9 little buck Wheatley zone corners

Drafts 5’8 marcus Jones in the third round, 5’10 jack Jones in the 4th. Starting 5’10 jon Jones and 5’9 myles bryant too. That is absolutely not it.

Just good at evaluating talent.

I do still have a bit of a creeping fear that this will come back to haunt us at some point in the season. I don't see man coverage working out too well against a team like the Vikings, but I don't even know how much man vs zone the secondary has been playing this year.

Just wait until we run into a Vincent Jackson or plaxico burress! Remember little Ellis Hobbs in 07 super bowl?

Gilmore, Talib, Revis could cover number 1s and shut them down

You said the same thing when we went up against Pitt, those receivers were going to hurt us....you know what they did? Nothing...we got this Nick!! Trust BB

No I didn’t. Never once mentioned that. I said Mitch trubisky is the biggest bust of the decade and one of the worst Qbs i have ever seen. I literally wasn’t worried we would win because of how bad trubiskey is

I would always be weary of signing a Patriots CB that hasn't shown that they are solid CBs somewhere else before coming to NE. The one thing Belichick has been consistently able to do over his two plus decade career with the Patriots is plug and play CBs and make marginal and average talent look far better than they are. I always felt JC Jackson fit into this category although I thought he was better than just average.

I was for tagging and trading Jackson because I thought that someone would give up a high draft pick even a first for him. But maybe Belichick was concerned that Jackson would sign the tender offer. Granted he wasn't keen on freeing up cap space for anyone much less $20 million to tag and trade Jackson.

Eh, I don’t think the Vikings are the matchup I’d worry about in terms of size. Talent sure, jj is amazing and thielen is a really nice wr. But it won’t be our height that kills us there.

Looking around the league these days, most of the elite receivers are really guys that are masterful route runners, fast, great at separating. Less jump ball type 1v1 receivers. Kupp, Jefferson, adams, chase, hill, diggs, lamb, Allen, godwin, Cooper, aj brown (tho brown could go in either category). All guys you are happier having a fluid cover corner than a bigger body, slower/less agile guy for.
There are a few guys I’d see more as the big body contested catch type- evans, mike will, higgins, mclaurin.

I think it was pretty clear we needed our secondary to get faster. I feel we’re in better shape there now than the last couple years.

Wonder if JC misses the Patriots: maybe not because he's getting paid, but look at these stats:

That really just goes to show you at how good BB is at utilizing his players, recognizing their strengths and putting them in the best positions to succeed while minimizing the other team taking advantage of their weaknesses.

The weird thing to me about JC's performances and numbers, is that the Chargers run a man heavy scheme with plenty of similar concepts to ours (rotating safeties, Cover 0, Cover 3 etc). Coaching the difference? Attitude?

This makes me sad. I was 100% not for resigning him for anything close to what he was able to get (maybe not even half), but he's been a huge part of any success the Pats have had since they picked him up, and I was hoping he'd be at least mediocre and not crappy. Darn ankle injuries - it sounds like he's been playing at 90%. Glad he got his money. Ecstatic that it wasn't from the Pats.

He's been playing injured. Had ankle surgery less than 2 months ago.
