BB and coaching staff deserve most of the blame for this one

I'm grasping for straws here.
Yep, that's for sure.

I've never heard of blaming a poor defensive effort on the QB.

I guess you must give Cassel credit for the goal line defensive stops in the first two games?

we retooled the D-line this year to rush the passer....we aren't built for the run as much.
Uh, we did? Care to elaborate? Last time I checked, we had the exact same D-line this year as we did last year (and the year before aside from injury).

Did we trade RunDWilfork for PassRushWilfork when I wasn't looking? SeymourHoles got released and we signed SeymourSacks?

Silly Hobbs must have not received the "play like crap" memo the rest of the organization got on Thursday night.

LOL Hobbs brought his A game plus he played like a WINNER plays.

I can't say for sure if BB et al were unprepared, in fact I'd find that hard to believe except to say they probably didn't have much film on Miami. Their last 2 games were awful besides, so who knows what the pats were using as prep material. All we know is that Joey porter and his Doofins came in here and kicked azz all over the field.

Two aberrant teams maybe? Pats played awful and Miami played like champions today. The rest is history.

I'll say this much-that 1-15 team looked very good and deserved the win. It'll be interesting to see how they do from here on.

First time I can honestly say that it seems BB and his staff were completely un prepared and unable to adjust.

Maybe BB and his staff, need a wake up call as much as the players.

Between the super bowl and now this, I am wondering if BB is losing his Midas touch.

last time was the super bowl, when they used the same tired old game plan they'd been using all season. even though it was obvious teams were planning better against us as the season went on. and during the game they never made any adjustments to slow giants pass rush

That is a big over reach. We lost a regular season game after 21 straight. W got toasted in all aspects of this game by an inferior team.

Accept it. Live with it. The sun will come out tomorrow. One awful game does not a season make.

Post of the year! This is fanbase and message board top heavy with frontrunner bandwaggon fans. Ian doens't need to be spending money on expensive servers, he needs to clean house and keep it clean. Either that or rename it. Best fans on earth my ass...

Well, there are some good ones ...

Look, BB said it all:

Bill Belichick: Well, there is not too much to say here. I thought that Miami played a real good football game. They did everything a lot better than we did. The outplayed us. They out coached us. They certainly dominated on offense and defense. I thought we were competitive in the kicking game but that was about it, not on the offensive or defensive sides of the ball. They obviously deserved to win. They were the better team and they did everything a lot better than we did today. Not too much to say.

Our team got beaten all ends up today. It happens. Let's see what they can do next time.

BB will admit the Pats were severely outcoached. This game was an embarassing loss. Miami played beautifully, and we played like a group of second stringers. I hope the next couple of weeks we come back with both guns blazing.

Run it up against the 49ers, baby!

I said his ineffectiveness could be hurting this team.

There is enough blame to go around in this loss. From the Coaches to the Players. Everyone in the locker room needs to get their minds right.

It is rather difficult to prepare for a gameplan that heavily features college style option RB plays, when they have never run that before.

Give credit to Miami, this was their superbowl, they threw out everything they could to win it... and then gatoraded their coach.
I agree with what you posted. I heard wilfork and seymour say they had never seen anything like it in the NFL. They were totally unprepared,an like Seymour said "If it looked like we were running around like chickens with our heads cut off ....we were" No one could have anticipated the Miami game plan.

That being the case, why don't/haven't other teams tried this tactic?

I agree that BB is only the greatest coach in the league today, but not perfect. Good call.

Yes , For the first time someone has diagnosed the situation correctly, and assigned the proper response.

Bill Belichick even accepted the blame.

He said the coaches did not do their job, and adapt.

I would give credit to the Miami Dolphins staff though. They resurrected a formation from the antiquity of football and used it repeatedly for large gains and scores. But the Single Wing will not suddently overcome the Pro set and become the new rage.

This game is hardly the meaure of the team. Tom Brady led Patriots would have lost this game. The score might have been closer, but the Dolphins would still have have won easily.

The proper response it to bury this game ball like Bill did once before, and move on.

There is NO question the Pats were outcoached in this game but there was a CLEAR lack of effort from the players and you can not win with that under any coaching

I have to agree with the OP. What made it work for Miami was they have a halfback who also can throw the ball. What disappointed me is that Belichick is too smart not to adjust to something like that on the fly and shut it down. He's a football historian for chrissakes! Miami deserves a ton of credit for coming up with a radically different scheme that you seldom see in the NFL. The Pats apparently were confused over the necessity of having to also account for the option possibilities -- handing off (like Brown did to Williams on one long-gainer), passing (as he did on the touchdown pass) or keeping the ball.
The Pats played right into Miami's hands on this because they employ a two-gap 3-4 read-and-react defensive scheme vs. a more aggressive 4-3 scheme that relies on penetration and pursuit. When you're not sure what you're reading, it's hard to react. This was an embarrassment for Belichick and his defensive coaches.
