Lost 25 yards of field position vs maybe 50 if they didn’t convert.
A coach making a strategically moronic statistical decision, to put the team at a disadvantage, is meaningless. Got it.It was pretty meaningless, but let’s pile on.
They punted and new Ireland had a 3 and out drive that lasted 2 minutes. That is the result.Look up that word. You clearly don’t know the meaning of it.

Going for it and failing would have been significantly worse.
The result includes what happens after because that is part of the decision to try and pin them back and get a 3 and out.The result is that they voluntarily surrendered possession of the ball. The subsequent drive by New Orleans does not absolve a bad probability decision.
Even with the “best case scenario” where they got the ball back, they lost two minutes of clock time and 25 yards of field position. That was among the best “rewards” of this travesty of a call, and it still didn’t justify the decision.
Points are overrated.Going for it is a little better if you get it and a lot worse if you don’t.
How is it only a little better if you get it? The point is to try to win the game, there were 25 minutes left. The Colts just came back from a similar deficit in less time against the Rams last week. You need scores. If you don't get it you just give them about 25 extra yards of field position compared to punting it away. The no brainerest of no brainers. The result includes what happens after because that is part of the decision to try and pin them back and get a 3 and out.
It’s 24-0. You cannot allow another point and have a chance to win. If you fail in 4th down they are 20 yards from a game over FG.
The chances are barely diminished to score 24 points with 23 injured left vs 25.
If you go for it and fail you either lose 30 more yards or they get a FG.

Insure the shut out.
Give Stevie a long field to defend....boost his resume.
