Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

And you think we're going to find a replacement-level safety out there?

Yeah. Good luck with that.

Darren Sharper

Time will tell, obviously.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

No one is suggesting anything but a vet.

Maybe we should have a tryout and we can sign Markie-Mark like in Invincible.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

Somehow I doubt that addition helps the pass defense.

The safety play was poor against the pass, and that includes Chung. You might be an upgrade.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

Every year the same question and the same answer ... Bill develops the defense during the first 6 weeks and sometimes up to 8 weeks. Yet every year some members expect mid-season form in week 1.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

I mentioned it in the game thread after Koppen went down, but I'll repeat it here. I won't be surprised it Shawn O'Hara is brought in for a look.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

Don't casually toss the Sharper idea in the trash...IF he's in game shape, he brings a Pro Bowl level worth of play recognition at the least...which, from what I saw limited by TV, was a problem with our young guys.

They won, and it was a fun game. This is post game analysis, though. Did you honestly think the safety play against the pass was acceptable?

I will never understand Sanders being cut, he was a at least would have been a good back up that knew the system.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

Safeties were crucial part of our defense last year. The FOUR safety positions AVERAGED 62% of the defensive reps. Onbviously, this year the number will be less because of the lack of depth at safety. Chung is fine. The other three are Barrett, Brown and Ihedigbo.

2010 DEFENSIVE REPS
Meriweather 80%
Chung 72%
Sanders 71%
Page/Brown 25%

Are we really OK with replacing Sanders and Meriweather and Sanders with Barrett and Ihedigbo?
====================
Many have us have suggested that we need to add a veteran safety. BTW, he does not need to start. He could be the #3 or #4 safety, like Page last year.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

I was thinking of O'Hara during the game, Deus...you sure he's still out there?

The defense is designed for the secondary to make most of the tackles. 29/56 tackles ... the top 5 tacklers were secondary players - for this game that appeared to be the game plan. As far as your question well they could have played better but like i said every year it takes 6-8 weeks for Bill's plan to be fully implemented.

I am pretty athletic but undersized at 170lbs.

I merely question whether Sharper can run well anymore. And, as a result, I'm skeptical of his addition proving to be any sort of panacea when it comes to safety play in coverage.

The Giants cut him in July. I don't know if he's ready to play, but I've got to think BB will at least give him a call.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

If BB was here right now, he would say, "Obviously there are some things we need to work on, but tonight we are just going to enjoy this victory."

I think we should do the same.

Barrett will be fine. He needs coaching and correction. If he keeps making the same mistakes over and over a la Meriweather then there is cause for concern.

It's obvious you're new here. Get with the program. These clowns live to second guess and analyze things they know next to nothing about. We don't enjoy anything here. Before the sun comes up there will be a thread here biatching about Brady throwing an INT...

I thought Connolly looked okay at C tonight, but I agree O'Hara, either as a starter or a backup, could be a nice fit.

some here can't sleep at night unless they know the 53 ... if Bill could possibly pick a 53 for the year these people might lose their reason to exist.

Re: Broken Record Time - We need a S & an OL

Now that Tarp is gone, we can start with Ihedigbo.

Of course Sharper (or another vet) would add more production to the safety position in 2011 than Ihedigbo who Sharper would replace on the roster! Sharper would be this year's Page. Even if he were FOURTH in the depth chart, he would be available in case of injury, or in case either Barrett or Brown was underperforming.

Chung
Barrett
Brown
Sharper or another vet

You should have a warm glass of milk, a few cookies and go to bed - your brain is working way to hard and you really need to enjoy the victory for now ... maybe even for 12 hours.

There may be a question of how well Sharper can handle man coverage at this point in his career.
