Austin Collie Re-signed Again

If Dobson had a stress fracture, he shouldn't have been out there until it was fully healed. I don't understand why professional teams risk permanent injury to their players' feet in cases like this. Feet are notorious for long-term problems if you don't allow them to heal properly. It took Demaryius Thomas 2 years and some change to really get back to 100% after his injury, and Gates has never been 100% since he hurt his.

Teams need to take a smarter approach on these.

Boyce hasn't practiced since his injury. Only a sprained ankle, but he is just another small receiver and the least experienced. Maybe IR him and take a chance Dobson can play a little

Excellent point that will not be popular with some because it highlights the "win now" mentality. This is not the first Patriot we have seen return from an injury and promptly re-injure himself...

Well, there goes Dobson. Why can't we get a stop on these injuries?!?!

OT, but is anyone else seeing a change in the way the forum looks on their screen? Mine now cuts off short width-wise and has a huge new section at the bottom.

Edelman played more on a stress fracture and got it operated on and just caught 100 balls. Realistically, If Dobson was going to take a year or two at this point in his career, he might as well find another profession.

I have no idea what you're trying to say here. However, the reality is that the foot is often a problematic heal. It's fully weight bearing, and the smaller bones can end up with real problems.

Ask Kevin McHale about it sometime.

so why did they play him? Especially as he on a good day would only be marginally effective?

Well he did play in the ravens game. So it would make sense to play him against the bills unless he re aggravated it and said nothing in practice before the game.

The report is that Collie was at practice in uniform (#10), as well as the other 49 players (including Davis and Green).
Not certain they can have 54 for some period of the day.

So, to not go above 53, it would need to be one of the four not at practice, I think.

IIRC, you have to be in compliance at the end of the league day (i.e., 4 PM ET). For example, when you claim a player off waivers, you don't have to have a pre-existing roster spot.

Teams are stuck deciding between short-term and long-term help for the team. I understand their situation, and I don't think they're being evil bastards, or anything like that. I just think they need to be more cautious with foot injuries, and I think players need to make sure that everything is sound before they return to the field. It's not worth shortening your career over a couple of extra weeks.

They don't heal even after years, ask Bill Walton. I don't recall McHale taking a year or two off to heal is foot either. Ty Law played on one and I'm sure others do. Edelman got it operated on.

I'm not sure where you're getting this "years" notion. It takes as long as it takes, be that days, weeks or months. Walton's problem was that he played on it, got it reinjured, and ended up with chronic issues. You wait until it's fully healed, and you make yourself as sure as possible that it really is healed because, as is the case with the Waltons and the McHales, this stuff can significant impact the careers of even the best players.

Dennard is still hurt?!?!?! UGH!!!

They have a week to put in new wrinkles. There is no reason why Dennard should be out there in snow and cold on his banged up knee nor for Mankins to take any further reps on his ankle and whatever else is going on with him. Mankins can sit out until game time. He knows what he's doing.

The only move was Collie and they can put a full offense in with him while they sort out Dobson's foot. Dobson may get IR'ed if his injury rules out a return any time in the playoffs, otherwise, he'll be inactive.

Call me when guys miss practice next Tuesday before that weekend's game.
Thankful for the bi-week (sic)

Alfonzo Dennard
Logan Mankins
Josh Boyce
Aaron Dobson

My guess is that Dobson is headed to IR.

If it's not Boyce then I hope it is Dobson that is IR'd. I'd much rather lose him than Mankins or Dennard.

Best case scenario, Boyce is IRed. Worst case, mankins or dennard are IRed. But I would imagine if dennard was headed to IR, we would have signed cole back.

Its almost 4:30 no news on a roster move yet?

Ha, called it.
