Better 7 of 6 ? Where is smile emoticon ?

Assante Samuel's contract history. Standard rookie deal with the Pats. Then in 2007, they paid him on the Franchise Tag ($7,790,000). He was treated so poorly by the Patriots that they let him hit free agency where he broke the bank in Philly. Philly cut him 2012 with 2 years & $19.1 Million left on his deal. The Falcons cut him in 2014 with $5.1 Million left on his deal. Who treated you badly Assante?

well....no one complained about pats treat their players as long as they were always winning and getting to the AFCCG. At 2-4 its suddenly "Asante samuel is right".
edit: 2-4

And I believe it was A$ante that was supposed to cover Tyree on the helmet catch play and he left him free for some reason. We all know what happened after that.

I'm pretty sure any beef he has against the Patriots and Bill is mutual.
It was... he was the clown peeking into the backfield 25 yards downfield for some stupid reason!

It's 2-4. It may be 2-5 soon enough, but let's not rush things. Lol But I, for one, was not referring to that part if his comments when he addressed the treatment of the players. I was agreeing that the margin for error is a lot smaller now because Brady did mask a lot of deficiencies. He is right about that. I don't think anyone on the board really believes the record would be what it is if Tom still played here. Maybe the O would still look bad, but they would still have had a better record.

He may or may not speak for a number of players in the Pats past, but he's very much the wrong guy to bring it up and not expect some significant and somewhat deserved blowback.

And BTW - Assante's 2008 cap number with the Eagles ($9.1M) would have dropped him in at #3 on the 2008 Patriots cap, under Tom Brady ($14.6M) & Randy Moss ($9.8M).

The Pats roster management strategy was one of main reasons they had the greatest 20 year run in NFL history. Not every decision ended up being the correct one but collectively it worked tremendously. Can understand why an individual player may not like it though.
It helps though when you have the GOAT. It's not as easy to win in the NFL with that strategy without a great QB

Had he covered Tyree, Manning gets sacked. It's most likely 4th and 10, but it still doesn't grantee a win. He mistimed his jump on the INT though.

He's right with the ship staying afloat because of Tom Brady. He was the leader of the team and basically an assistant Coach to BB. Players followed Brady's lead and tolerated a tough Coach as long as they were winning. As soon as that ends, the wheels come falling off.

If Gronk and Brady feel like they were "treated like crap", that's not a good sign going forward for other players. We're going to see a lot more Adalius Thomas's and Steve Martin's packing it in. And as Michael Irvin once said, when players realize the season is over, they start playing as individuals for their jobs.

Thin skinned too - gets triggered easily. :D

I think we're all missing the positive aspects of Asante's comments: There are 31 other teams that don't treat their players poorly. There's only one team in the entire league that cuts players when their production doesn't match their salary, releases guys who suffer injuries, keeps guys on their rookie deals as long as possible, asks players to take pay cuts and then releases them anyway and so on. I think we should be pleased that Asante is saying 97% of the league does things the right way.

2-4m but I’ve got no problem with the rest of the post.

Every team does the things you mentioned, but the Patriots do tend to let guys go early and not break the bank for past production. These are all smart ways to build a winning franchise, but it also deviates from the norm of how NFL teams usually operate. It's no wonder players don't really like it or feel wanted by the franchise (even Tom f'ing Brady felt like that on his way out), but hey, it's a business.

Darn that salary cap

I see his point and what alot of people are saying, i just think its too early to start bagging on bill yet. It takes time to rebuild once dominant teams complete their runs. Look at literally every other dynasty, there are going to be down years at some point to retool, IF you ever make it back up.

Our ‘rebuild’ period after the first 3 titles were masked by having the goat qb and goat coach, now theres only half of that puzzle. Most people have a warped vision of reality when it comes to expectations with the patriots because of the last 20 years, understandable . But if we end up looking like a real rebuilding team that’s nothing to be ashamed of and it doesn’t mean the coach isnt holding up his end.

Now, if we go on to miss the playoffs and 2-3 years later we’re still sitting here in the same position, THEN I’ll listen to these critiques. But in this year, one we came into far from a serious contender then losing several contributors to FA, AND all the covid opt outs / players and practices missed, its not the time to fully assess what bb can do without tom.
