Apparently he is a genius since he thought Tom Brady was Tom Brady.

Why Bucs GM Jason Licht should be NFL Executive of the Year

By Luke Easterling | January 19, 2021 10:22 am

There are plenty of reasons why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are headed back to the NFC title game for the first time in nearly two decades, but all of them can be traced back to one person.

General manager Jason Licht has turned the Bucs from a punchline into a contender, making key decisions in every facet of team-building to put the franchise in position to make a Super Bowl run.

It’s not exaggeration to say the Bucs would not be in this position without Tom Brady as their quarterback, and that move can be traced back to Licht in multiple ways. The presence of head coach Bruce Arians was part of Brady’s reasoning for signing with the Bucs this offseason, and Arians reiterated Tuesday that he would still be retired if not for Licht’s presence in Tampa Bay.

................

The Bucs aren’t here if there’s no Brady, and there’s no Brady if there’s no Arians, and there’s no Arians if there’s no Licht.

No matter how this season ends for Tampa Bay, the team Licht has built makes him deserving of NFL Executive of the Year.

He should probably get it by default. On the other hand, Brady had first called Shanahan and Lynch and told them he wanted to play for the 49ers. They said no thank you and were confident rolling with Jimmy G who then gets injured and Brady is back in the Super Bowl. Again. Both Shanahan and Lynch should be on the hot seat for that massive blunder. It's amazing how Franchises are so dumb and don't believe in "mortgaging the future" when Tom Brady is the closest to a sure thing who averages getting to the Super Bowl every other year during his career!

Also, 60% of the time he's won the Super Bowl every time.

Well one can't say Shanahan and Lynch made a blunder without saying BB made a blunder.

Oh wait, nevermind, BB DID make a blunder.

if brady said, he wouldve the most miserable player on the team and his sideline body language be a daily topic. BB didnt let him go. he decided to leave because the team around him wasnt good. That maybe on BB. But i dont believe for a second that it was 100% money. if they had paid brady top dollar like tampa he wouldve asked kraft to let him go after this season anyway like he did after the eagles superbowl . But we are dealing in binary these days . Brady in NE = SB. who cares what the team is.

licht hasnt made the playoffs for 8 yrs. has constantly drafted in the top half of the draft every yr. Not saying he didnt do a great job. But a lot different than drafting low every yr and trying to be in the SB every yr.

There isn’t a world in which Brady gets that SF team (given their injuries) or our Patriots team (opt outs + lack of talent) to the Super Bowl last year.

Licht did well in the draft the last 4-5 years. Yes they had higher picks in the first and second round but they still had to hit on them. Plus he spent well on a few keys veterans.

He deserves it because he placed key components around Brady in order to succeed. It wasn’t just Brady, the whole team around him was well built along the defense. Shame Gerald McCoy wasn’t on this team. That guy truly deserved a SB title.

Licht has had several killer drafts which is what lured Brady in the first place. Drafting Wirfs and Winfield were homeruns as both were key contributors to the chip. Add in the FAs they signed and the trade for Gronk and I don't know you give it to anyone but Licht.

The Bucs have potentially one of the best 22-man starting lineups of the salary cap era.

Quarterback - A
Offensive Line - A
Skill Players - A+

Front 7 - A+
Secondary - B+

I think they're a shutdown corner away from a historically good full-health team...though the injury insurance may not be there.

Sherman has indicated that he would like to go to the Bucs.
