You’re saying the HC did not chose his coaching staff?
SMH.
It was a Collaboration.

Maybe Wolf made the mistake of believing in the coaching staff?
He put the coaching staff together. Everyone save for Mayo and Covington.
Right. Because Mayo had no network. So Wolf helped hire guys he believed could do the job, to work for Mayo.It was a Collaboration.
The good news is that most teams rosters are terrible. The NFL has gotten so bad that you just need to be "good enough" in most areas as long as you have the QB. If you took the top 5 teams in the NFL and put them in a time machine into the early 2000's, they probably wouldn't even make the playoffs. Our LBs suck. Spillane is good enough to be an every down guy but one who's very weak in coverage. No starting caliber player next to him. None of our EDGEs/OLB are really good. Jennings is such a lacking pass rusher it almost negates his good run play. Chaisson is so situational that he can't play in non-obvious passing situations. Landry looked washed in TEN last year just accumulating coverage and scheme sacks because he played a lot of snaps. If you count Keion White as an edge anything he does good he gives back because he has **** for brains and can't keep the QB contained.
They added baseline talent to get this from a bunch of non NFL caliber players to an NFL caliber unit but a weak one. Progress, but it's not a good unit and we shouldn't kid ourselves into thinking so.
Right. Preaching collaboration and Wolf saying not having such a hard ass approach. This directly affected the players and couple this with the worst roster in the NFL. 7 one score losses last season. Vrabel wins at minimum 5 of them.Right. Because Mayo had no network. So Wolf helped hire guys he believed could do the job, to work for Mayo.
And once hired they worked for Mayo.
And as I said Wolf made the mistake of still believing in the staff when they were working for Mayo.
Overlooking the fact that they were working for Mayo.
Yes!!! Wolf did. On defense mayo promoted covington. Everywhere else Wolf had his hands all over the staff. Interviews were even reported to be " very light on football ".. like WTF...You’re saying the HC did not chose his coaching staff?

I think bicknell left on his own right??.. it's really hard to see anyone still trying to defend last season.. .. last season.. every one was right.. it was a diaster.. Drake was the only good thing that came of last season.MayoNays also retained Bri-Bri & the lacrosse player as Safeties & CBs coaches, and asked old friend Donta Hightower to help as OLBC... I wish the New (same as the Old) boss had retained Bob Bicknell as TEC in addition to Jerry Springer as STC.
I wonder how many of the 27 games he played in??Active for 27 of 34 games
Wich has never been done in the modern NFL era.17 straight runs, without any discernible adjustments while that was happening? Should've told us all we needed to know.
Here’s last year snap counts for him:I wonder how many of the 27 games he played in??
Seems like by late last season he was pretty much a starter playing over 70%of the snaps. While of course peppers was out for the a large part of the season as well as Dugger missing time. He played at S notably. Here’s last year snap counts for him:

Yes, Mapu played a lot of reps at safety last year. Here’s last year snap counts for him:

That being said, Vrabel saw the need to sign Epps, draft Woodson and to re-sign Hawkins.
If Vrabel really liked Mapu's performance at safety, he would be practicing more at safety.
Useful breakdown from that article:Patriots moving Marte Mapu to linebacker, explained by Mike Vrabel
The third-year defender is now officially listed at a different position.www.patspulpit.com
His usage the first two seasons reflects this. Of his 690 career snaps on defense, 313 have come as an off-ball linebacker type with 221 as a deep safety, 100 in the slot, and a combined 56 split between an on-line defender (31) and split out wide (25).
I view marte as a chess piece, can be used to help with running QB'S like Allen, Jackson, Daniels, fields who we all see this season.Useful breakdown from that article:
I think you got this one right. We need a Mapu or two with speed for the running QBs, it makes a big difference.I view marte as a chess piece, can be used to help with running QB'S like Allen, Jackson, Daniels, fields who we all see this season.
Agreed. A defense in 2025 NFL needs hybrid interchangeable players like him. I'd like to see him on the roster. Additionally we need to build back up the farm system like we used to be very good at doing. He's a drafted player and I'd like to see him get to a second contract here.I think you got this one right. We need a Mapu or two with speed for the running QBs, it makes a big difference.
Back to the original thread, the only problem I can find with the defense is that there are plenty of chess pieces, but we’re short one high end starter. If White plays DL we’re thin at LB, and vice versa. Mapu, Peppers and Dugger are all variations of the same guy, and each is a liability at mid-field coverage.I view marte as a chess piece, can be used to help with running QB'S like Allen, Jackson, Daniels, fields who we all see this season.
