Are we currently the best team in the NFL?

I think we can hang out with anyone in the AFC (Chiefs, Broncos, Colts, Steelers, Ravens, Bills), especially if we end up playing them at home in the playoffs.

In the NFC however, there are a few very physical and aggressive teams which I don't have full confidence going up against this year just yet (Seahawks, Philly, Lions, and Rams maybe).

THE best team in the league right now? No. One of? In the mix with? Yes. This year is not like prime Brady/Manning years where if your choice was Pats/Colts versus the field you wouldn't be crazy to take the first one. There really isn't an insanely good team that is no question better then the rest. There is just a giant mess of ten teams or so that have holes and question marks and which one rises up is why we watch the games.

Right all are 8-2 but if you compare how the 3 teams have played I have a hard time saying those teams have been better than us
We have the better QB by far. Broncos have the better D and Indy has the better Offense. So it’s kind of rock paper scissors with these 3 teams imo.

Historically great? Huh?
before yesterday’s game, DVOA had them as the 4th greatest team through 8 games since 1978

1. 2007 Patriots 71.9%
2. 1991 Redskins 51.9%
3. 1985 Bears 48.3%
4. 2025 Seahawks 47.4%
5. 2007 Colts 46.4%

That is ridiculous. They are 7-2. Many teams have been 9-0.

My "2nd Fiddle" mentality from the last 6 years is starting to wear off.

When you look at the AFC, there's no team that is really a dominant complete team, sure to be in the AFCCG.
So, why not Pats? Yes, when it comes to playoffs - the Chiefs will be hard to beat just because of experience & confidence.
But, they're flawed. Bills & Ravens are not as dangerous (or healthy) as they've been. Colts are also in new territory and Jones is Jones.
Denver is a house of cards (probably lose 3 or 4 of their last 7)

I think we could be competitive with the top AFC teams
But NFC seems more dominant & complete (Rams, Lions, Seahawks, Eagles) I don't think we're ready to beat those guys.
I think SB winner will be one of those 4.

Were the 91 redskins that good of a team?
Yeah they really were. Pretty sure they were top-5 all-time in scoring. #1 offense, #2 defense, could cover, rush the passer, run it, throw it (Mark Rypien had a career year), offensive line was fantastic. This was sort of pre-free agency (It had already started, but this was before the salary cap, and teams weren't really used to it), got a lot of mid-level vets to go along with their high end talent already there (Art Monk, Darrell Green, hall of famers, brought in Wilbur Marshall who...might be a hall of famer? He was an all-pro for them), so not only were they good, and really well-coached, but they were also deep.

One of the last really deep rosters we had in the league, actually. NFC was absolutely yoked back then too, Dynasty Niners, Giants won the year before, Green Bay was on the come-up. And this was in the middle of the Bills Dynasty of Sadness, and the Broncos were still very good then too.

We...were not. So, we got to see a lot of other teams.

The two losses we have could have been wins, we've been in every game this year, unlike the last two years. I don't want to say we could be 10-0 because we are what we are, but no one has blown us out.

They were really good, but that offensive was literally fantastic as you said. Jim Lachey LT, Raleigh McKenzie RG, Mark Schlereth RG, Joe Jacoby RT. Forgot Jeff Bostic at Center. Veteran line, Schlereth at 25 was youngest.

We are not the best team in the NFL.

That is determined by playing in the Super Bowl.

+ one of the all time great coaches with Gibbs

Rams and Eagles because they've done it before, but the Lions and especially the Seahawks have not.

In 2023, 8/13 losses were one score. They got absolutely hammered back to back weeks by Dallas and New Orleans in week 3/4 which painted a dark cloud on the rest of the year, but the team was actually pretty competitive the rest of the way. Over the remaining 12 games they were 3-9 with only 3 of the losses by 2 scores (and none more than 2). And all 6 of the one score losses were "true" one score losses where I think they had the ball in final minutes with a real chance to tie or take the lead (LV week 6, WAS week 9, IND week 10, NYG week 12, LAC week 13, BUF week 16) - no "back door covers".

Last year was the only we were truly uncompetitive.

Rams are very good. But eventually someone's going to figure out how to defend that gimmicky 3-te set.
Come on Tommy, they are more than that.
Lead by a SB winning QB who is playing at a ridiculous level.
Very good D
Goff coaching.
The league has had a couple of years to figure out Nacua……

I'm going to say "no", I think a couple of the top NFC teams are a smidge ahead, but probably not by a whole lot. Which is really saying something.
We have the potential to grow into the best as this year continues to unfold. I mean, Henderson and Williams are now game-changers. Hollins is now a deep threat. Tonga is now a road grader. Campbell can now handle anyone not named Garrett. Diggs and Pop are now unstoppable in the middle.

We're discovering multiple new things about this team every week.
