Anyone else think Revis winds up back here?

Take the handful of millions you'd waste on Revis who can't play CB well anymore and sign a FA corner, or use it to keep Logan Ryan

The problem is Ryan will be way out of our stratosphere when he hits the market. It's very hard to get a decent CB unless you draft one or overpay...BB made a savvy move in getting Rowe, but that doesn't happen much.

Maybe I should have mentioned this in my original post, but I think the Patriots will be looking for depth and insurance in their secondary after Ryan and (probably) Harmon get overpaid by another team. They were very lucky to have great health in their secondary this year...the truth is they are not that deep and are about to get thinner. I don't agree that Revis has fallen off a cliff. I think his skills have declined, but I also think his story is not over yet and that in the right role, he could still play a role in NE. Maybe I'm crazy...just thinking this would be a classic Pats move of buying low.

My understanding of Revis is he's a one trick pony, and that trick js playing man coverage. Look at how average he was in Tampa Bay under that scheme; have difficulty seeing him adjust to the safety position, but who knows.

Don't you guys get it? Revis never left the "shadow roster". He took the Jets for all they're worth, blew up their cap, sandbagged it on the field and slugged some guy so he can get released.

Then he resigns with the Pats for pocket change and wins another Super Bowl.

Kinda like how Blount did.

It's all part of Belichick's master plan to lay waste to the entire league.

Come on people, keep up.

Strangely enough, I can see him being cut, the accepting a below market deal with the Patriots to piss off the Jets.

I'd take him as a second corner.

As usual Belichick is NOT a genius, but other teams are idiots. While here he was often is zone or matched up with the #2 as Browner manned up with the #1 with safety help.
The Jets saw this. Did they copy answers from the smart kid? Of course not. They used him on the #1 receiver with no safety help.:) (At least while I was paying attention to them for like a week or two.)

Yes, he is not "REVIS" anymore but a guy who kinda looks like Revis from a distance if you squint IF he does not demand much money... (That is a big "IF". :) )

No. He won't want to switch positions and he'll want too much money. In addition, he's likely to be suspended for a while if there is a conviction or plea. We already have a prospective signing (Floyd) that is likely going to be subject to a suspension. How many guys can we afford to pay that are going to be suspended for part of the year?

Not that I want Revis, because I don't, but suspended players, who are not vital to the team's success, like Brady or Butler, have the added benefit of allowing good teams, like the Pats, to keep players, during the last cut, that they would prefer not to lose.

So Floyd is likely to be like a free 2 -4 week IR returnees while we get to keep a promising youngster, like KGH or C'revon Leblanc.

He looks to have lost too much quickness at this point (barring an injury that accounts for the issue) to be worth a significant paycheck. If money no longer motivates him to perform, and he could have stayed with the Pats with a reduced salary, then why would the lure of a second ring do anything, especially knowing the Pats did not want to pay him 3 years ago?

He would be a Champ Bailey-type conversion project (from 8 figures to low 7 with the Saints). I expect Champ was more of a team player, so it would already start badly even if Revis was willing to eat an 80% cut in pay from the last year with the Pats. I expect this would be a fit for neither side.

I am not confident enough in my own case to argue that.

Just sayin'....

I don't even know....just bored and coming down from my Super Bowl ecstasy (state of mind.)

The only possible reason for a thread like this with a premise like this, is that you are in fact bored.

My question to you, Ice, is this. Do you actually want to see this happen?

I would like to see it happen, if Revis has anything left, even as just a part time player. Imagine him running back a pick-6 against the Jets? That fantasy alone makes it worth it.

I guess, but it seems to me since we are deep at receiver that Floyd being out for a few weeks (if he signs here) is more doable than replacing a (potentially starting) member of the secondary for a few weeks.

Revis could be useful as a FS on a 1 or 2 year deal to a team
with a young secondary trying to make a playoff run ...

That's not the Patriots ..........

Too hell with Revis. He left here with a thumb to his nose.

When you say "Revis winds up back here" do you mean playing for the Patriots or serving his upcoming sentence in Walpole. I see a much better chance for Walpole over Foxboro

There are numerous articles on the internet about the Jets options after Revis's altercation, with most of them concluding he will be cut.

Lost in a few the articles are the fact that Revis was planning to work harder than ever this offseason and had offered to take a pay cut, switch positions if necessary, and do whatever is necessary to stay in the league and not go out put as a washed up player.

Hmmmmm....

You know Revis has a huge ego and will feel like the Jets anandoned him, hanging him out to dry and leaving his HoF chances in jeopardy.

Defensive backs are expensive. It is easy to say "Revis sucks" or can't play corner anymore due to his age (though part of his poor play was from injuries, too.) I am skeptical he could just "play safety". But what about a one year deal in the $3-4M range where he could play, say, 25 snaps a game, maybe as a third-down or red zone specialist. I think if anything he was overused in NY and couldn't possibly cover number one corners the entire game with little safety help. But what about in a reduced role as a situational player who will be rested and playing with a chip on his shoulder? If the Jets cut him, you know he would like nothing more than to stick it to that organization. And remember Belichick's philosophy: buy low. The question is if Revis really has anything left. Let's not pretend that we really know for sure what's happened to his play for the last year and whether or not he is truly just cooked.
aside from the fact that he is a shell of himself now, he also "went there" with respect to Brady/DeflateGate and the Brady suspension. He talked trash about it too, and he is dead to me. Don't want him.

From all accounts of the incident in PA, I highly doubt anything comes of it, especially now that Revis has hired the Steelers "get out of jail free" Pittsburg based lawyer.

As for Revis, I remember Brady saying something like he thought Tevis was little moving or in pain, so maybe he was hurt. He is clearly no longer a shutdown corner. But his knowledge and experience might make him an interesting sign if he wanted to sign for the right price. Revis has a ton of pride and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to leave the NFL as washed up guy who got torched on a horrible NYJ team.

Of course thinking that Revis would ever take less than the maximum amount he thinks he should get might be folly on my part.

Better articulation of my original post. Thanks.

His return to the Jets being a complete washout seemed to be karmic justice for the Jets getting a slap on the wrist for the tampering and Revis talking sh*t about defamegate. Yet one more example of the inept/corrupt commissioner's machinations backfiring on him badly.
