Anyone besides me hoping for Rivers to recover and play?

I'm actually hoping for Rivers to play. Volek is steady, and will be better with some playing time last week, and working with the first team this week.

Rivers is much easier to fluster with pressure, makes stupid decisions and is inconsistent. He isn't even mobile any more - I still can't believe DUngy never blitzed him.

It's not like the contest is in question much either way (unless your name rhymes with Smellger) but it will be much easier for the D with Rivers under center than Volek.

With LdT it's not much different. Turner is as dangerous as Tomlinson, IMO. SD will be at it's best with both in action, though it will have as much effect on the outcome as Jones-Drew and Taylor did, i.e., good but not good enough.

There is part of me that agrees with this thinking on Rivers, something you didn't mention is the fact that BB has plenty of tape on Rivers, and I'm sure in those tapes Rivers has shown what can bother him. Volek might be more of a mystery, just because of lack of info.

Totally. I want Rivers to play. I want him to play and suck, suck, suck. I want him to get hit everytime he drops back. I want to see him screaming at his teamates on the sidelines, and screaming, "The sorriest corner in the league is dancing in the end zone!". Rivers owns the title of largest douche in pro sports right now, and I want to see him have a meltdown. I want tears, I want a proclomation of class. I want to see the single worst playoff game every played by a QB and the subsequent implosion of the chargers.

I'd take that, haha. However, I think there is a reason that Rivers was the starter and Volek was the backup through the whole regular season. Rivers gave them the best chance to win. Backup QB's can get hot/lucky in a game sometimes, but when you consider that they've been practicing since August and Volek never showed enough there to warrant a start, then you have to realize the truth is that he's probably just not starting QB material. A good example is Todd Collins on the Redskins -- Got hot for a win streak but showed a lack of consistency in the playoffs that has probably been a major reason he didn't stick as a starter during his career.

I'll always pick the backup QB as the preferred option but Rivers isn't scary with 1) his emotional issues, 2) his bad knees, 3) his so-so arm trying to throw threw what's looking like 20 or so MPH winds.

Absolutely. An immobile Rivers throwing his wounded ducks in frigid weather is easy prey compared to Volek. Volek might pull an Aj Feeley performance out of his @$$.

I couldn't care less who the opponent is or who their QB is or who their big corner is. Didn't we see enough of Shawn Springs, or Peyton Manning, or the Colts to know that the only thing that can stop the Patriots is the Patriots?

Rivers, Volek, whomever ....... whatever.

See the fallacy of what you are saying? Rivers was supposed to be a starter, was being paid a zillion dollars and still was a backup for two years. Not just a few months, but two years.

Some players get better every year, even when they don't get on the field. Not everyone reaches their peak in the first, or even the fourth, year. This is especially true for QBs.

QBs who are backup QBs often shine when they get the chance. Many were not drafted or not drafted high in the first round, and have matured and gotten better as backups. Garrard and Plummer were backups for years. When you apply your logic to them, it makes no sense.

Garrard never showed enough there to warrant a start, then you have to realize the truth is that he's probably just not starting QB material.

Plummer never showed enough there to warrant a start, then you have to realize the truth is that he's probably just not starting QB material.

Gannon never showed enough there to warrant a start, then you have to realize the truth is that he's probably just not starting QB material.

Romo never showed enough there to warrant a start, then you have to realize the truth is that he's probably just not starting QB material.

Phillip Rivers never showed enough there to warrant a start over Brees, then you have to realize the truth is that he's probably just not starting QB material.

Those are a couple off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are many others.

Anyway, my point isn't so much that Volek is the next Garrard, but that Rivers is easier to fluster, makes bad decisions, and right now is immobile and highly vulernable to a strong blitz.

But think about it: you and I are actually in agreement. We both want Rivers to play rather than Volek. If Rivers wins, I'll be here, and you are welcome to come back and say, "I told you so." I understand if Rivers plays and you lose, you (and 99 out of the 100 Charger trolls here) won't be man enough to show up and say you were wrong, but think about it after you've slunk off next Sunday.

Rivers can't move for sh!t anyway even on two healthy knees. He could run a race with Brady's grandma and finish third.

Rivers all the way.

From what I've been reading, those with no horse in the race actually hate Rivers more than the Pats. Given the vitriol directed at us this year I find this amazing.

What's funny is that none of the newest Rivers haters ( I don't count you guys ) can even hear what he's saying when he talks trash. He doesn't curse—they should mike him up.
