Hadn't done this for awhile so I wanted to add to it. Definitely took advantage of the rules and also made two trades, one up and one down. I think the Pats could really revamp their defense with a draft like this.
32 Eddie Goldman DT FSU
A much discussed player on this board, I am still very high on him and what he would allow the defense to do.
64 Jalen Collins CB LSU
Probably shouldn't be here, but injury knocks him down. Has the ability to play press coverage, has the length BB is looking for and the athleticism to be special if he puts it together. Not my top pick at CB, but amazing value at this point.
Trade 96 to Minnesota for 110 and 137
97 Buck Allen RB USC
Don't love this pick, but I believe RB is one of the biggest needs and Allen can run, block and catch out of the backfield. Has the ability to be the 3rd down RB right away but also to start taking away carries from Blount. Brady deserves all the weapons they can give him.
101 Marcus Hardison DE/DT Arizona State
Now combined with Goldman, the D-line has been improved and would be one of the deepest in the league. Hardison can play multiple positions and techniques on the line and would be a great chess piece for BB. Imagine Goldman and Hardison to go along with Branch, Siliga, Easley, Jonesx2, Ninkovich, and Sheard?
110 Ty Sambrailo OT/OG Colorado State
Would look to pick him inside, has the size and athleticism to thrive in the Pats O-line scheme and compete for a starting position right away.
Trade 131 and 220 to Indianapolis for 128 (I assume they'd still trade despite what happened)
128 Alex Carter CB Stanford
Not as good in man coverage, but like Collins, is a very good press corner. Even if he doesn't start right away, could compete on special teams and in the red zone. Could use him like Browner with safety help over the top. Obviously the DBs wouldn't be the same without Browner and Revis, but I believe Collins and Carter would allow them to play similar to last season, especially with an improved front 7.
137 Ben Heeney LB Kansas
Speaking of improving the front 7, it would be great to add one of the more athletic and quality coverage linebackers in the draft at this point. He would take the roster spot vacated by Casillas. Would be a great special teams player as well.
178 Shaq Mason OG/C Georgia Tech
254 Jarvis Harrison OG/OT Texas A&M
Maybe a bit of an overload at the interior Oline, but Mason is super athletic and would give the Patriots a backup (and insurance policy with his injury history) for Stork who could also compete for time right away. Harrison is one of the most underrated players on CBS (some places have him as a 2nd or 3rd rounder even). He handled LT and LG in the SEC and has the size Coach DeGuglielmo looks for.
Though maybe a bit unrealistic, I for one would love if this is how the draft turns out. The defense might actually be improved and would be young enough to continue the dynasty. Brady would add another quality RB and hopefully his OL would be improved.
