I don’t believe that you can tell from camo reports his back up players and rookies are really doing.
Jones had a VERY LONG road to go playing at an Ivy and spending a year on the practice squad. Swinson played well against the toughest competition there is in the NCAA.
Imagine you are the coaching staff and you have an expectation of the potential of each of these players. Who gets good comments from writers in the first few weeks isn’t really moving the needle. I think Swinson would haven’t demonstrate he isn’t close to what we thought we drafted for Jones to supplant him on the roster.
The longshot feel good stories usually don’t make it.
with Jones and Swinson, I don't think the decision will be which is the better defender, but which is the better ST player

Someone said this guy would start if there was one injury.
I think the special teams thing is overrated. Unless you are a special teams damn, returner or gunner the nominal difference between one hit and the next is minimal.

we disagree, which is fine, and expected

So, teams are really stupid to waste their money and time to get this set of input?
Do you honestly think they make decisions based upon PFF grades? Haven’t we been over this numerous times? I’m sure teams subscribe to every day’s source they can get their hands on. It surely doesn’t mean they rely on the grades of one with a terrible track record.

3 sacks against the Vikings. Can the Patriots still justify cutting him?

The team still needs guys who can stop the run on the edge but the preference is to also bring a pass rush. Vrabel knows that. Their hope is White is that but the jury is still out

This isn’t the 90’s or 2000’s. Being an edge defender against the run is fine, but you have to be somewhat decent of a pass rusher to justify continuing to be a starter. The league doesn’t have a gauntlet of running games like the prior eras did. His 5.5 sacks over 4 seasons isn’t going to cut it.

If he somehow makes the team, his snaps will be greatly reduced.

PFF Grades are only one piece of information used in making decisions, sort of like arm length and 40 speed.
No. Teams grade film themselves, they don’t leave to PFF.

You are aware Chaisson had 5 sacks in 4 years in Jacksonville before getting 5 last year with the Raiders right?

He is one of our best 53 players

Cut an ILB or a DT of our roster, we dont have a plethora of good players yet
Agreed. I don't see the issue, particularly as White can account for both an EDGE defender and interior spot on the roster.

EDGE: Landry, Chaisson, Jennings, Swinson

Interior: Barmore, Williams, Tonga, Farmer

Both: White.

That only leaves us one big guy up the middle in Tonga but that doesn't seem to be the direction of this defense anyway with it's attacking style.

Reasonable way to free up a roster spot and we can likely stash a run stuffer back up to Tonga on the PS.

OK

Are you saying that teams don't subscribe to PFF products. My only pint was that teams do so and have the information available as one of the many, many, many factors sued in evaluation.

I always want another DL, but that's me. I still see Pharms or an acquisition with a roster spot.

They subscribe to the stat aggregation. They don't subscribe to the """grading""".
