Breaking down the reports from Day 9 of Patriots Training Camp:

QB Tommy DeVito with a pretty deep ball along the right sideline that WR Mack Hollins hauls in for the 40-yard-ish gain (CB Channing Canada closest in coverage).

– Sophie Weller

Good day from Dre’Mont Jones early on. Pressured Drake Maye into an incompletion on a boot and later had a “sack” when the Patriots sent an all-out blitz. Jones added a second “sack” later in the practice, looking like he got some penetration on a stunt.

Patriots finishing up another fully-padded practice… Two-minute period was one of the highlights for the first and second-team offense. Drake Maye went 4-for-5, including hitting Mack Hollins down the field for a chunk gain, to give Andy Borregales a 54-yard field goal.

After a very slow start to team periods for Drake Maye and the first-team offense (1 of 4, sack), he went 14 of 15 with two sacks the rest of the way. Not much of the highlight variety, but effective. Both Maye and DeVito executed the final game situation (1:05 left, ball on 20, need FG).

Starting D controls first team period, but Maye answers with good finish, including a successful 2-min drill

Really solid practice for DeVito and 2s, with multiple deep completions (Hollins, Boutte)

Chad Muma emerged as LB3, reps w/1s in base

AJ Brown slants are automatic

Defense has really mixed it up with blitzes. Lots of pass rush fronts and different pressures/bluffs. Good work for Maye and the RBs to get on the same page.

Maye started practice 1/5 and then finished 11/12. A.J. Brown caught four passes. Patriots have a walkthrough tomorrow.

During the two minute drill, Drake Maye’s first pass to Romeo Doubs was incomplete, but he followed it up with. completions to Hunter Henry, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, and AJ Brown to get the ball into field goal range Andy Borregales makes the 50+ yard field goal

Patriots have a Kayshon Boutte paradox — he’s getting far fewer opportunities with the first team than DeMario Douglas, yet Boutte keeps making the best plays of practice.

Notably quiet day for Romeo Doubs at camp. [1^st pass in the 2-minute drill] Just got a target, super low from Maye and incomplete.

Kindle Vildor did not let Kayshon Boutte get an ounce of separation. Tommy DeVito’s pass falls incomplete by a lot.

Drake Maye found Kayshon Boutte down the left sideline for a nice gain. Boutte adjusted to make the back shoulder catch on Kobee Minor.

Better run for Maye and the starting offense with AJ Brown getting them going. Brown caught three passes in four reps (slant, slant, comeback) and Maye hit Boutte on a back shoulder. Boutte then got behind the second-team defense on a deep post for a big play. Pass from DeVito.

Kayshon Boutte with another nice catch. This time he goes up to get a Tommy DeVito deep ball over cornerback Channing Canada.

Kyle Williams is working as a gunner in a special teams drill. He is the only offensive player in the group.

Just in: Baltimore’s two-time Pro-Bowl WR Zay Flowers reached agreement today with the Ravens on a four-year, $140 million extension that includes $108 million guaranteed, per his agency.

In my opinion, this is the type of contract that Christian Gonzalez is trying to establish for the Cornerback position.

Chad Muma continues to distinguish himself as the No. 3 guy at MLB/ILB. Rising presence at a position where the Pats could use some depth.

Starting defense wins the first team period with Drake Maye going 4/8 and multiple run stuffs/pressures on blitzes. Maye did beat a blitz on a slant to Boutte to end his reps. Tommy DeVito and Mack Hollins have the best connection for the O so far on a hole shot into cover 2.

Christian Gonzalez comes untouched on a blitz and picks up a would-be TFL on Rhamondre Stevenson.

“He’s going to be a big piece of what we do when we’re in 11 personnel.” Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel have hinted at a more prominent role for Patriots slot receiver DeMario Douglas, who’s regularly repped with the starters this summer.

Sophomore kicker Andy Borregales continued his strong summer connecting on all five of his field goal attempts with a max distance of 52 yards. Borregales then tacked on two “pressure” kicks from distance to conclude the aforementioned two-minute drives.

Our tracking now has Borregales as 28-of-30 this training camp.

Terrell Jennings received the first reps with the second-team offense before Lan Larison worked in.

Rookie cornerback Karon Prunty worked through a block to blow up a screen to Lan Larison.

Patriots insider Greg Bedard reported that rookie tackle Caleb Lomu is trending downward after losing those reps decisively, prompting online debate about the 28th overall 2026 draft pick. Coach Mike Vrabel plans to shift him to guard alongside veteran James Hudson for more reps, praising Lomu as a quick learner versatile across the line. Fans mix worry with patience, noting typical rookie adjustments to NFL speed while expecting him to develop as a backup behind vets.

On 98.5 Sports Hub Felger and Maz show Bedard said Caleb Lomu should be moved to Guard. Very down on Lomu’s performance so far.

Vera-Tucker looks rusty. Having communication issues with Jared Wilson. Both Wilson and Campbell look stronger. Campbell is vastly improved over a year ago.

Patriots HC Mike Vrabel says we’ll start seeing Caleb Lomu mix in at guard. James Hudson will also continue seeing reps at guard.

Gabe Jacas is trying to put the delayed start to his NFL career behind him as he proves himself to Patriots fans. In post practice interview he says he 100%.

Mack Hollins has been great throughout the preseason and the Patriots love him. They truly have a 7 WR logjam.

DeMario Douglas says he feels way more comfortable running option routes after a year in Josh McDaniels’ system WR coach Todd Downing praised Douglas for his growth in that area during the offseason

– Taylor Kyles

Drake Maye showed off his mental skillset on one play in particular, adjusting TreVeyon Henderson’s pass protection assignment with the defense showing blitz to complete a quick in-breaker to Boutte.

Kyle Dixon had a good box-out catch against John Saunders as Morton navigated a messy pocket.

Henderson caught a couple of passes out of the backfield today on both the first and second offenses.

Mitch Van Vooren secured his first catch of camp with Morton.

Elijah Ponder had an early PBU on Maye from a double-mug look, near INT result. Ponder brought consistent pressure from the edge today

Dre’Mont Jones lined up all over the formation.

Two Minute Drill with 1:05 on clock scenario

Maye (4/5) had completions to Brown, Hollins, Boutte and Douglas.

Got the FG unit to Midfield — Borregales 54-yarder is good.

DeVito (3/6) with completion to Hollins twice and Boutte working the sideline. FG ATT was good.

Dre’Mont Jones said he’s seen a lot of improvement from Will Campbell since he played against him last season. Said Campbell is “a lot more stout” now.
