Chaisson and White are on the EDGE if Landry is out.

Jennings may be a better choice.

For me, Jones is a developmental prospect that has beaten out Swinson for a roster spot.
Jones was already on the roster and ascending the coaching has absolutely impacted his growth as a player.. Swinson is a rookie and has been in the rotation as well.

If Landry gets injured who becomes the starter?
Chaisson would be my guess

Truman Jones has worked a ton with STs and stood out to me during the preseason game

Chiasson is essentially a draft bust hoping to catch on.
Ultimately you would want to play Jennings and bring Chiasson in on passing downs.
As is with no injuries I expect Jennings to play around 40% of the snaps. White and Landry aren’t playing 100%. Spelling them on run heavy form and distance with a top edge run defender is smart football.

Can you expand upon the reasons you feel Jones beat out Swinson. That would be a huge upset.

Chiasson and White defending your edges while you cut a top 5 edge run defender is scary decision making to me.

I agree, Jennings has been a binky of mine so I hope that he makes the 53. He was pretty adept at getting to the QB at Alabama, so he may have something to his game that we have not seen(mostly because of his responsibilities in past defenses.

just camp reports

I think that we all expect a developmental LB or two to make the 53. Our 5th round draft choice Swinson has been underwhelming so far.

I agree that it would be a huge upset for Jones to beat out Swinson, but that result seems more and more likely each day. We'll see soon enough.

He had opportunities last year to rush the passer.
348 pass rush attempts 3 sacks 22 hurries 6 hits
Compared to
Landry. 421 attempts 9 sacks 15 hurries 6 hits
Chaisson 309 attempts 6 sacks 19 hurries 4 hits

I don’t think “hurry” is a great stat, hard to quantify and potentially meaningless in some cases
If I was scoring I’d give 10 points to a sack 3 to a hit and 1 to a hurry.
On that scale you get

Jennings 70
Landry. 123. (In 20% more opportunities)
Chaisson 81 in 10% fewer opportunities.

The numbers show what we think, that Jennings isn’t a great pass rusher, but at least shows up in hurries.

I don’t believe that you can tell from camo reports his back up players and rookies are really doing.
Jones had a VERY LONG road to go playing at an Ivy and spending a year on the practice squad. Swinson played well against the toughest competition there is in the NCAA.
Imagine you are the coaching staff and you have an expectation of the potential of each of these players. Who gets good comments from writers in the first few weeks isn’t really moving the needle. I think Swinson would haven’t demonstrate he isn’t close to what we thought we drafted for Jones to supplant him on the roster.
The longshot feel good stories usually don’t make it.

Chaisson is already a starter across from landry.. furthermore vrables not playing anyone who can't play the run.. Chaisson has a 80 PFF grade against the run. He and Landry for a formidable duo on the edges.. Chaisson has also has had a excellent camp and has been a disruptive force off the edge..

Can't ask for much more.. realistically

Chaisson is not a starter. White is.

Chaisson is not close to the run defender Jennings is, it’s not even arguable. Please refrain from using PFF grades to argue, they are not realistic.

Yep. I read that as well. Hes capable and has good size.

Just gotta see him continue to shine here if he should start over White.

Who ever Vrabel thinks is good enough should Landry go down I'm good with.
Odd way to discuss our opinions.
Good reminder our opinions don’t really matter.

I see too many folks posting their opinions of who should play then when they don’t getting upset and miserable over it even if the team wins. Y’all make yourselves miserable needlessly.

Remind yourself that we actually have a real experienced and competent NFL coaching staff this year.

So as a fan we shouldn’t evaluate players and have opinions, we should just say, trust the coaches they are always right?
Thats fine, but why post on a football board then?

FYI I want every player to be great, I hope I am right on the ones I think are and I hope I’m wrong on the ones I don’t. I cant imagine wanting a player to fail to prove you guessed right.

Agreed. As Chaisson a former first round pick was finding his footing at LV.. he specifically chose NE because he wanted to play for Vrabel and he liked the opportunity to be part of building something here.. currently the starters have been White, Landry, Chaisson, Barmore, Williams... in camp practices..I'd note that White moves around inside and outside..

Just keep a healthy perspective.

I believe we’ve seen posters here that are happy if the team loses so they’re right and unhappy if the team loses and they’re wrong. Or getting so wrapped up in their binkies they can’t be happy if those binkies aren’t the reason. They create their own misery and that’s not healthy.
