And The Talk About Wynn Continues

Well, in retrospect it turns out that drafting Wynn over Calvin Ridley was a huge bullet dodged. So that’s something.

Maybe Belichick is truly considering whether to go with Brown (LT) and Herron (RT). To me, that would mean that the doctors are convinced of the health of brown AND of Cajuste (or that Belichick has someone he knows he can trade for as a backup).

POSSIBLE
Wynn for a 7th (gains lots of cap space)
Sign or trade for a backup OT
I think it's a mistake to put Heron at RT. But it's only OTA's.

If Wynn is holding out for an extension or more dough, he doesn't have a leg to on. Why not stay healthy and kick ass for a season? Lots of lost promise to date, he definitely needs to prove himself as a reliable, consistent player, imho.

26 NE TDs in his first 3 seasons would have been nice.

There's the domino effect too. With him on board they may not have felt forced to make a ton of the moves that backfired (Brown), were just plain bad (Harry), or desperate (Sanu). The 2019 team would have likely made a deeper playoff run. And that's just the first few dominos in the chain...

Hell, even Ridley himself might have gotten better counseling and support and just plain benefited mentally from being in a successful environment with a strong culture.

We may never have seen Cam in a Pats uni...

Bob Kraft: "Where's my burner phone? Get me the little guy"

Krafty using Reiss to take an indirect shot at BB; the man responsible for extending Wynn for $10 mill, drafting #1 Harry, signing big ticket flops Jonnu & Nelson, and leveraging the Belichick kiddies into jobs they are completely unqualified for.

Remember....BK has a big wedding to pay for....... probably getting a little ornery as the date fast approaches.......Wants an extra special day for his teen bride....and the 10% inflation surcharges have caught him off guard

he skipped OTAs last year as well... this is nothing new...

and I havent heard any rumors regarding him holding out for a new deal...

Edit - after reading his tweets, not I'm not sure if the contract isn't an issue... He's not making a stink, but it does look like he's angling for an extension

Wynn is playing on his fifth year option, which means he makes 10+ plus mil guaranteed, however, no workout or off season bonuses, so no financial incentive to show up at OTAs. If he doesn't show for mini camp, then you might have something, but OTAs? like most of us, if you ain't getting paid for work, your not showing up for work.
I know what you are saying but if the guy gets 10+ million guaranteed he is getting paid.

It is disappointing. I feel like he gets a lot of [somewhat unfair] crap, but this doesn't help his case. But maybe there's a good reason .... hopefully.

Or AB.

Ridley might have been the best drafted WR since Branch.

These articles aren't even quoting Reiss anymore but sound like it's a fact there may be a dispute.

Ugh, not sure how 3 out of 5 starting OL being gone can be a good thing.

The Pats are crazy if they give Wynn a contract extension.

Let the Raiders have him. He simply is not that good.

If the Pats are to be feared throwing deep, Mac will need time in the pocket before defenses back off and devout resources in coverage. Defenses do not crowd the LOS vs Mahomes because he will burn their axxes if they do.

My take is that the Pats picked up Wynns 5th year as pre camp insurance if there isnt a better option at LT after things shake out.

Would I have preferred that Wynn show up at OTA's, of course I do. But the fact of the matter is we are talking about missing about 6 practices IN MAY for a guy who has already has 4 years in the system. If he were a new FA, or a QB I would have a BIT more concern.

What I WOULD like to know is if there is a reason other than just deciding not to.come to this VOLUNTARY mini camps. Is it an injury? Is it a contract dispute, or what? Just curious. All I really want for Memorial Day want is a healthy Wynn showing up the first day of TC in late JULY and I'll be happy

I’d be less concerned about his absence if the guy playing next to him also had 4 years in the system. As it is he’s prevented them from starting to learn how to play together. He’s also taken a pass on assuming a leadership role, which is something I’d like to get as part of the package costing $10 million.

The Pats started Joe Thuney AND Shaq Mason as rookies and both did very well. Brady Gronk as well as several other Pats over the years have missed "voluntary" OTA's over the years and a lot show up because they have off season workout bonuses that include OTA's. Wynn didn't have an off season workout bonus.

Like I said, I WISH he'd have been there, but him missing them means NOTHING! No one is bonding over shorts and T-shirts drills, ESPECIALLY offensive linemen and most of the defense. Who they ARE important for are QB's WR's rookies, and players new to the Pats organization.

Saw an article this morning saying Wynn was the Patriots star offensive lineman. Laughed all the way to work.
Wynn is the Patriot's star offensive lineman about as often as we experience blue moons. Better than Haley's comet, I guess.
If he is ever going to approach "stardom", now would be the time, Mr. Wynn.

If it's true that the O will run more outside zone blocking schemes, I would think having the starting OL present, regardless of non contact, would be important; especially given there are 2 new starters. I'll defer to you however, given your experience.
