The guy get's drafted by us and fits the defensive scheme very well. It's not like the guy's getting lowballed. He's playing in one of the most successful franchises in over the past decade and he's having a difficult time with this decision? He's very much loved here.

I'm trying to keep my eyes open for any local news here in the 'burgh. The last I heard was that he had a visit scheduled but that there was concern about the weather, which could potentially change his plans.

Possibly. I just can't see Pitt typing up what...30-40% of their cap in 4-5 players if the sign him to a big deal that we can't match (since it sounds like it will be 10/year from us) and the Jets would have to offer him idiotic $$ i feel for him to go there

At least in Tenn it's home and a much better chance to win.

I wonder if he just say wants one more year from us on the deal or just really really test driving every car out there

If he goes to Jersey it wasn't about home or winning..just $$..goes to Pitt it's still about winning...and $$. Rather have him go to the Jets TBH. Pitt is the only real threat to us in the AFC IMO besides our own injuries

It's been reported by multiple sources that Pats and Hightower have been in good communication (note how Pats haven't brought any LB in for visits as of yet) and this was pretty much the plan all along. He was gonna go see his market and then come back to the Pats with the best deal and allow them to match it/beat it. Thing is his market hasn't been what he has expected at all. Pats at the $10m per they offered is likely the best offer out there right now, which is why you have teams reportedly saying they are interested but expect him to sign back with the Pats. So Hightower right now seems to be looking for a team that will give him a better deal than the Pats so he can take it back to them and see if they'll match it.

I don't think he wants to leave but this is his only big contract of his career so I can see why he is trying to get the most possible. Fans can take it as disrespect or not wanting to be here but an extra 2-3m in guaranteed money is nice to put in the post-nfl retirement fund especially when he just saw Mayo's career end early because of injuries at age 30.

He is trying to save face. He probably doesn't want the appearance of leaving for the same amount of money to a loser franchise. He should have taken the 10 last offseason and he would be fine right now. Instead he is basically hoping and praying some team overpays so he can save his dignity and leave like he pretty much seems to want to. Otherwise he's take the Pats offer right now. This is week 2 of FA (yes the tampering period counts) and when was the last time a number 2 FA was unsigned at this point? I was thinking no biggie on Fri/Sat. Now it's one week and NOW he is going on visits?

There is nothing normal with this situation.
