I think we can relax now . a bit . and go back to our lives . a bit

That's good to hear, but I wonder what made them think Hightower's coming back to the Patriots. Did he sit there rolling his eyes during their pitch? Did he LOL when the jets told him they were building a contender? Did he tell them "It's going to take $13M to get me", so they showed him the door?

High after meeting with the Jets

What?
This is the complete opposite what was said about teams convinced hes staying in NE

That's probably just his own opinion. As said there, "he doesn't know".

Whoa.... if this is the case, the Belichick totally nailed his market value by NOT using the franchise tag

IF.

It has come to the point where it's hard to follow/believe all the tweets out there. I would like the HT-JG-MB situations resolved. Out of curiosity. It would be quite the offseason if HT & Butler are gone and JG IS still on the roster !

Steelers for Donta makes sense
I want him back or Brown on the phone as soon as we know Donta isnt onboard

Twitter is a grain of salt. These media types suppose a helluva lot.

That's why I don't even understand why he's taking a visit. Does he think it'll make the Patriots come with a better offer? Would be seriously consider playing for them? Is this to drum up interest from other teams, especially since there are reports that teams feel strongly he'll re-sign with NE? I'm just trying to understand how the Jets became such a major player in this whole thing seemingly all of a sudden. Would Hightower really do it... and for around the same as NE is said to have offered?

Yes, any visit might end up driving up the offer by 500k or a million.
The Jets may have initially thought HT was going to sign with Tenn or Pitt for $13M, and not wanted to pay that.
But if it emerged that HT can't get that, why not give him a visit? Maybe he doesn't want to go back to NE? Why not just have him in for a chat to find out?
I don't think this stuff is nearly as mysterious as we might make it out to be. He's just visiting places.

The interesting thing is that the Patriots have not wavered from the 10 million
they offered before the season began.

Not sure if this is the case.... but you never know. We're all human after all

Yep. He got his rings. Didnt even want to do the parade. That was weird. After the greatest comeback? Very strange. We'll be fine if he leaves. Prefer him to stay but that buzzkill act was weird. Writing was on the wall he wanted out.

Indeed. I read that he visited and that the Jets get the sense that he is staying with NE.

That would explain the delay in HT signing. Some if us have wondered why HT would consider the Rats, under Smilin' Todd Bowles, after experiencing excellence under Saban and BB, but it is possible that he is looking for a big contract without having to work so hard.

I remember when Parcells left the Pats, Ben Coates pointed out how much more enjoyable it was coming to work.

I'm sure that was true, but the Pats stopped winning when Parcells left, and didn't start winning again until BB took over.

An enjoyable, low stress work situation where you are getting a huge payday may be the ideal for an NFL* football player, as long as winning isn't high on your list of priorities.

That's because no team has offered more than $10m so Hightower can't take a deal back to the Pats and ask them to match it or he would be losing himself money.
