Alexander, Lua and Woods

The sucky thing about Woods being given a series in the SB is that during the series he was given, the game's third (after 63- and 46-yard drives), Manning/Bradshaw fumble the handoff on 2nd/13. If one of the regular 4 LBs were in Woods' place, it wouldn't surprise if that other LB had successfully recovered the ball.
Agreed, it was almost shocking that he didn't end up with the ball. At least they put him in, though, although it may have been little choice with that stupid 10 minute drive the defense was on the field for to start the game.

Woods made one of the worst plays of the Super Bowl, if not the worst, lest we forget.

Not sure how Woods made one of the Worst plays when you consider that the Ref SHOULD have blown him down by contact. He had control of the ball and was touched by a Giant player BEFORE Bradshaw dove in and pulled it out.

Personally, I think Hobbs biting on the inside route at the end was a worse play. I think that Koppen ole'ing Tuck was worse.

But, hey, that's just me.

If one of the regular 4 LBs were in Woods' place, it wouldn't surprise if that other LB had successfully recovered the ball. And if the offense had converted 3rd/2 on the preceding drive and maybe another 2:00 taken off the game clock, chances are that Woods wouldn't have been needed for that third series. Another example of the across-the-board, top-to-bottom eff-up that was SB42.

My bottom line: Woods receives one last chance; Lua receives at least one more chance; Alexander and Izzo recieve their pink slips, and actual talent (and youth) replace them.

How can Izzo receive a pink slip when his contract was up? How is it that Alexander should be pink-slipped? Cause he is an undersized ILB in the mold of IZZO and is a damn good special teamer? Same as Woods?

A lot of people don't realize that the Pats coverage units were very good this year. The Patriots kicked off 92 times (most in the league) and allowed 22.1 yards per return. The Pats punted 44 times, allowing only 14 returns for a 5.357 yards per punt return.

You start a wholesale purge of key individuals like Alexander and such and you will seriously hurt that aspect of the game.

NOPE.

By which I mean...NO F-ing WAY.

By which I mean...can we cut the homerism and see these guys for what they are?

"Be patient!" "They're young!" "We need to give them a chance to get some p-time!"

Sure, Lua, by some miracle, could be a serviceable guy, but Woods and Alexander have shown nothing - and don't give me "they were playing behind Seau and Bruschi." Seau and Bruschi were not good enough AT ALL to explain not playing Woods and Alexander semi-regularly.

Our LB corps needs an overhaul, and will get one.

Well, Woods wasn't playing behind Seau and Bruschi. Woods was playing behind Colvin, Thomas, and Vrabel. And if you think that those 3 were playing so poorly that woods should have gotten time other than on special teams, you are sorely mistaken. Alexander was behind Thomas, Seau and Bruschi. Again, there are only so many snaps. Alexander, IMHO, wasn't going to figure into the regular playing and I thought he should be replaced last year.

And I guess you are just so intelligent that you ignore the 3rd part of the game, special teams. Woods led the team in special teams tackles. Alexander wasn't that far behind him.

And as I just posted, the special teams coverage units were extremely good this year. I can't agree on a WHOLESALE makeover of the special teams. They've already let Washington go because they didn't pick up his option. Willie Andrews will probably be cut because of his legal problems. Izzo may or may not be back. Now you cut Alexander and you've gotten rid of over 1/3 of your punt coverage unit.

Not to mention that Lonny Paxton hasn't been re-signed yet.
