Whoa: Jets reached agreement with OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson on a six-year, $60 million extension that includes $34.8 million in gtd money.

^From Schefter.

Very pleased with this.
I'm nearly speechless that he got that type of deal.

I'm nearly speechless that he got that type of deal.

if he's getting the minimum for the first 3 or 4 years, it could be a very reasonable deal overall for the jets

Faneca is still a good run blocker, but a terrible pass blocker. Ferguson is average to good in the run game, but excellent in pass protection. I really don't know how else to put it. Fact is, he has started every game since his rookie year and has gotten better every season. He has been the starting LT on one of the consensus best OLs in the league [unless you're AndyJohnson and won't accept that the Jets' line is one of the better ones in the league]. I trust Jets' management in their decision.
Faneca is not a terrible pass blocker. He missed some one on one blocks and was responsible for 6 sacks. That was the most by a G. By that measure alone, he was terrible. But a Gs pass blocking responsibilities often include help, and are not limited to one on one blocking. If you actually watch line play, you will see that Faneca was a plus to the Jets in that way, in helping out players, in blitz pickup etc.
If you aren't going to watch his play and rely on the dirt shoveled on the grave by Jet fans after the cost cutting move was made, whats the point?

You just said the OL was one of the worst in 2007, to excuse his play that season. Now when it serves your argument you want to say he has been the LT on one of the consensus best lines in the NFL.
I have never said the Jets 2009 OLwas not among the best.
I am saying the Jets 2010 OL is not nearly as good, and the RB position is worse as well.

Since he's been here, this team has been one of the best drafting teams, and has built arguably one of the league's most talented rosters. I'd say he's a good GM.

WHAT??????????????/
His tenure is a long run of medicority.
Wouldn't a good GM win something?

Like BB says he is what he is. Or like Tuna says you are what your record says you are. After 4 years on the job, Tannenbaum is a career .500 GM, although given the JETS track record that's probably what JETS fans consider an accomplishment. Right up there with winning those superbowls in September.

I'm a bit surprised at the timing. Seems to me Mangold and Revis are just going to turn up the heat that much more to get their deals done. By extending Ferguson it just gives them that much more ammunition to say 'you extended them, there's no reason why you can't extend me'.

Brick is a very good player. Much better than Light. If you watched the Jets for the last four years, you would know that.

That said, 60million is alot of money when you have other bills to pay

Pot meet kettle.

Know how many times I've seen "In BB we trust" on this site?

You're joking right?
You are comparing having faith in the BEST Coach/GM in the NFL (results make that a fact) to saying one decision has to be right because a medicore GM made it?

No, and then yes.

Light is a better player DF, and 60mil is ALOT for an average player.

the cry of the Rat fan...YOU WILL NOT TALK BADLY ABOUT OUR SUPERDUPER ALL PRO'S!!!!!!!!

there must be a rat signal at the green sewer boards that alerts these mutts to anything that doesn't extol and glorify their backerinners.

Since Tannenbaum became your GM, the Jets are 32-32.

show me the GM that has blown the 6th pick in the NFL draft on utter worthless garbage that STILL has a job in the NFL...I can only think of one...

Might want to wait for the fine print to see the structure. Guaranteed money average is less than $5M per over 7 years. If the guaranteed money is largely accounted for in the next 5 years it could be a 5 year $7M and you're potentially gone pending a massive restructure/reduction in year 5 or 6 deal. As long as he's durable and servicable that's all they need to trust to commit those guaranteed dollars to a LT.

Bill has 5 rings that form the basis for that trust. Tanny has a .500 career winning percentage.

Reduced to bragging nonsensensically so soon in the thread, Mr. Gut?

What was the Jet's regular season record again? Kinda mid-pack?

Certainly one of the most delusional fan bases. And that is no argument.

So basically, you're saying that it was merely coincidence that both your running game and Ferguson VASTLY improved once Faneca joined?

Faneca and Woody joined the line together. Stablilzing the two worst spots on the line while having someone mentor Mangold and Brick led to a vastly improved line.
