Abdul Carter vs LT at 4?

I think two QB's are going to sneak up in the top two picks. All 3 teams picking before the Pats are in dire need of a QB and teams reach for QB's every draft.

I hate trading down, but this may be the year if Hunter or Carter aren't available. I don't want a to have to settle for a Nate Solder type LT at 4. There doesn't seem to be a WR worth taking at 4. The Pats have to nail at least two offense picks in this upcoming draft.
Draft prognosticators don’t run team’s drafts. If Hunter is gone, the Pats most likely have McMillan as WR2 in this draft, and if they feel comfortable drafting McMillan at 4, so would I. The team needs WEAPONS. It’s possible a good LT will be available at 38. Then, take two offensive weapons in round 3. Or even trade up with those two 3’s.

best case scenarios for pats with their first pick.
1. hunter falls
2. carter falls
3. trade up for hunter
4. neither falls and no trade up, trade down and choose between jeanty and warren(edit...forgot tet)
5. none of the above, throw my remote

I feel there isn’t a LT in the draft worth the #4 pick so it’s Carter. I believe both Carter and Hunter are taken second and third after Ward is taken #1. I can’t see a team picking Sanders at #2 or #3. Although I wouldn’t put it past the Browns.

It's probably moot because if Carter slips to 2 or 3 and the Browns or Giants don't want him, someone else will jump us and take him.

Our dilemma is that if we don't take an OT with our first pick, there's a good chance that the best 6 OT's will be gone in the first round or top of the 2nd: Membou, Campbell, Banks, Simmons, Connerly, & Ersery. We need to land one of those guys, so if we go DL or WR then we'll need to give up significant draft capital to move up from 38 to say 26-28: more than one of our 3rd rounders, probably both 3rd's or a 3rd & 4th). We can't be giving up picks like that.

Our best move is to trade down to the 6-10 range, getting at least a 2nd rounder. Then take one of the top 3 OT's, or a stud at another position knowing we can move back up to the low to mid 20's with the 2nd rounder we acquired from the move-down. So we end up picking at say 10 and 22 instead of 4 and 38.

As of right now

I think we trade down

The Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot has an article out today saying that the Browns are very interested in Tyler Shough and could even be considering him at 2. That insanity would be typical Brownsian, as they are very desperate for a starting QB. Otherwise, Shedeur Sanders is what many fans here in Cle are expecting. Carter as a running mate for Garrett is also still a possibility. There is really nothing going on along the lines of the Browns having a strong interest in Hunter.

If Carter is there you take him. But he won't be.

Top 5 pick has to be a best available, blue chipper, day 1 difference maker. Otherwise you trade out if you can hoping a team is desperate to move up and draft for need. Carter and Hunter are the only two that fit the bill. So if they aren’t there, you move down

FWIW, while she called it a "hot take," over on Xitter she suggested that if she were a GM she'd consider drafting Sanders at 2 and then trading up to take Shough in the late first. Yes, two first-round QBs. [And I still think drafting Milton in the sixth after Maye was a bad idea. . . .]

That would be Brandon Weeden all over again for that franchise. Maybe they consider Shough as a 2nd round option but I doubt they have to worry about a 7-year college QB going first round. Maybe they’re interested in him, maybe it’s a smokescreen.

Unfortunately, due to their piss poor offensive free agency, they are forced to draft a LT or a WR. You can’t go into 2025 with no weapons or protection for Maye like in 2024, that’s a waste of another year for Maye.

Lmao

Browns to host Louisville QB Tyler Shough for a top 30 visit, source says; will they draft him at No. 2?

By Mary Kay Cabot
  • CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns are adding some spice to the top of the NFL Draft by hosting Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough for a top 30 visit, a league source tells cleveland.com.
  • Shough, who had an excellent Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, is quickly rising up draft boards and gaining momentum with the draft just over a month away.
  • But do the Browns like him enough to draft him at No. 2 overall?
  • It’s not as far-fetched as it might seem. Shough (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) is ranked as the second-best quarterback in this draft behind Cam Ward by at least one widely respected draft analyst, Greg Cosell.

I agree 2 QBs are def going top 3... but I've not seen anywhere that teams want Carter in the top 3... it's always Sanders/Hunter over him. Which is why I don't see us able to land Hunter in this draft unless CLE or NYG are in love with Carter.. which they don't seem to be. Everything I read says the draft goes:

1 Ward
2 Sanders or Hunter
3 Sanders or Hunter whoever is left
4 Carter/Campbell/Tet/Trade down

Carter or Hunter at 4 is 100% the play if one is available. If one is available and we pass on them it is an absolute massive fail.

If neither are there it would be nice to trade down a few spots and pick up another pick. Then draft Campbell, Membou, Simmons or Banks.

I have a slight concern about Abdul Carter, simply because over the years we've seen so many "can't miss" edge prospects go in the top 5 and be extremely underwhelming if not outright busts

If we do draft Carter at 4, how safe is Keyon White on the medium-term? Do they play the same role?

You take Carter or Hunter at #4, no question. They are the BPA by far.

If both are gone, you pivot to Campbell or Mombou.

Sorry unless Carter shows that his injury is a death sentence if he’s there at four, praise the gods and take him. If he’s the player he should be I think you have the makings af a terrific defense

Watch the Pats come away with 1 player again after twice being in a position to load the coffers with talent.

These Yahoos have no business wheeling and dealing.
