I have compassion for Todd Heap.

Anyone could make that mistake, feel terrible for the guy.

AH made his bed, I'm not going to feel bad when he finally decides he's sick of the fleas...

Agree to disagree.
Try watching the video.

Its a tragedy on all fronts...

Tragic that so much potential and talent was wasted on 10 cent brain and thug
Tragic for all those he left behind
Tragic for all the victims and people he took away from family and loved ones

Cant say Im suprised to fall so far and realize what your life will look like for next 50 years

What a wasted life. If only we could have put Edelman's brain into that body.

That would make a good movie. But like always, something possessed about the body would bring back the murderous tendencies and it would be a thriller at the end.

Er, maybe not a movie but an episode of Simpson's "Treehouse of horrors".

Quick and certain answers to these situations are always the lazy way out.

My wife runs a non profit that hires young people from urban DC into entry level jobs. She's gotten the starting wage up from $8 an hour to $15, but they still have to live with their parents, or in group houses, in the same or similar neighborhoods they group up in. For them, having a steady job that leads to a career is a journey into a strange land.

If you pay attention, and get to know them, you can almost feel the magnetic forces that are at work on them. Sometimes, one of them gets pulled back into the darkness that bedevils any and all communities in poverty. It is always sad and tragic.

Three weeks ago, one of the long-standing, successful young men, a mentor to many of these young people, and a father of four, was shot and killed in his driveway. He had recently testified about a stabbing he witnessed. My wife and I talk about it every day and it brings tears every time.

WRT Hernandez, throwing labels around like "scumbag" and "lowlife" is so easy to do, just so easy.

As long as someone is breathing their life is worth saving, including Aaron Hernandez. Unfortunately many don't have the strength, or the knowledge, to save themselves, and make something out of the time they have left. I applaud anyone who tries to help those who are caught in that position.

That's a straw man. I never made that claim. I simply made the claim that, in the long run, she's better off not being raised by a convicted murderer and someone with gang ties. She is.
straw man? she would have been better off not having her dad dead. at least if he was in prison she would have known him and had the opertunity to learn from his mistakes. either way alive or dead she is the one who will pay the price. shes not better off hes dead. shes just screwed .

He was someone's son and someone's father. Whatever his sins, it's sad to see anyone go out that way. Many times the victims families themselves do not wish for something like this to happen. If you read articles about him, especially in the last couple of years, he was, like everyone, a complicated person who wasn't pure evil. Unlike most of us, he clearly had an insanely violent temper coupled with his paranoia and drug use.

I am NOT one to ever put the perpetrator above victims or blame "society" for the individual decisions of a person, but in this case, you have to at least acknowledge a gigantic systemic failure. Because of his football talents, this guy was always let off the hook for his transgressions, probably from lesser crimes at the beginning, and then getting progressively more violent. He was guilty of his crimes and committed heinous, unforgiveable acts, but he was hardly the only guilty party. It's a bad idea to give individuals special pardons, which we continue to see frequently.

I guess we can no longer hope to sign the beast one day.

Truly a sad day.

Yes. That was a straw man. I said nothing about their bond and how she looked at him. Simply that she was better off not being raised by a murderer with known gang ties. Anyone with an ounce of objectivity and critical thinking knows that the kid will be better off for it in the long run. Kids are better off without being raised by their natural parents all the time. That's why organizations like the DCF exist. You are not one of those examples. What happened to you sounds tragic. However, because of it, I think your ability to judge my opinion on its own merits is clouded.

Now they can check his brain for CTE in the autopsy. What a waste in so many ways.

10 years ago for sure I'd be much more fire and brimstone about this. Talking about he should have done it sooner and that he deserves worse and it is a pity he didn't get it. All that stuff.

At this point I just shrug and call it all a damn shame. It is of course good this is over for everyone and he will never be on the street again and we know that for a fact now. While I do think some people should die I don't see any point in cheering for it to happen often, particularly if they are not in the position to hurt anyone else.

Him being found not guilty hurt people. Him being found guilty hurt people. Him being alive hurt people. Him being dead hurt people. Just so much pain from the whole thing from all sides and there is nothing you could with him that did not end with good innocent people crying and feeling a heart aching loss.

I just hope after this they all take solace in it all being over and move on with their lives as best they can and find some happiness.

i understand what your point is. he was a scum bag. but kids need to know who and what they come from good or bad. its just nature. if he was in prison he wouldnt be raising her. now that hes dead she will never have the opertunity years from now. to visit him and ask him why he did what he did. she will never know him. and that will haunt her forever. you dont understand it because you didnt lose a parent at a year old or 4 years old. my opinion isnt clouded. its the exact opposite.

She will know who and what she comes from, good or bad. She'll be able to see what he did and will probably still have a couple of memories of him (depending on how involved in her life he was). But now he doesn't get to put his fingerprints on her life at all. The guy was a psychopath and a bad seed. The less overall contact she has with him as she's being raised is definitely a good thing. It gives her a chance to not end up like him.

My father was an abusive cop. He beat my mother and hated his kids. He left when I was 4.

Pay attention here: I was much better off without him. This is not debatable. It didn't leave some unfillable hole in my life, it mitigated the damage he could do. I merely used my own experience to learn how to be a good father to my kids.

So, as Kon keeps pointing out, stop projecting your own individual experience as some sort of rule.

Side note: dude's getting way up there in years, and he's apparently trying to get back on good terms with my sister (and eventually me, I'd imagine). Believe me, that **** ain't happening.
