A question on my mind virtually every day [Would BB draft Maye]

What's " sad" is the Cult of Bill" trying yet again to rewrite history. Belichick clearly didn't like Maye and said so yet the Cult of Bill tries desperately to pretend that he would have taken him because he's turned out to be the best pick in that draft.

Why would you waste your time thinking about something that is impossible to answer?

Try this one. Do colors look the same to everyone?
How do you know that what you see as red is what I see as blue?
How would we know?
He's writing in from another country and likely learning about the game. You could do us all a favor and not be yourself for 5 minutes.

Actually Abdul has been a Patriots fan for a long time. But other than that I agree.

I give Belichick plenty off credit for everything he achieved here, drafting Brady and creating a 20 year dynasty, but I'm not going to give him credit for something he clearly would not have done. And what's really sad is the Cult of Bill demanding that you not only credit him for picking and developing the GOAT, and creating the dynasty, but you have to go along with every other thing they believe about Belichick or you are a hater. It's ****ing ********.

One thing to remember is that Maye was the third QB taken, so he wasn't universally regarded as the best QB of that draft. It's easy to look back now and think he was probably the best choice for long term, but I think it's impossible to tell what Bill would have done. And that's not even taking into account the likelihood that he would have lost some of his control over personnel by that point if Kraft retained him. I will say, I'm glad we took him, and I'm glad McDaniels is back as his OC.
Chris Simms said he would still be 3rd last week. Adding yet more evidence to the gigantic pile that hates the patriots.

This reminds me completely of Bill Pollian claiming that he had a first round grade on Tom Brady 15 years after that draft. Total ********.

Regardless what and when he said that about Drake Maye
BB has evolved to a narcissistic egotistical douchebag
Jeez, sounds exactly like some of the hater dipshits around here...

The roster was deplete of talent after losing all the veterans of the previous Super Bowl run. It’s likely BB might have traded down to get more picks to kick start a rebuild and settle for a QB like Nix. I suspect most of us would have been ok with this.

Lucky for us Vrabel and co kickstarted the rebuild by absolutely nailing free agency, which was critical after our horrid 2024 draft (aside from Maye).

BB deserves some credit. Stevenson, Onwenu, Boutte, Douglas, Gonzalez, Barmore, Henry, Marcus Jones, Baringer, and Schooler were brought here by him. Those are all some pretty big contributors.

My high school English teacher asked that question and young me was perplexed. Now I realize that it would only take one instance of saying "oh what a beautiful red sky" or "I love your beautiful yellow eyes, that someone would tell me somethings amiss.

That’s not what I mean though. We both see a blue sky. But my blue may look to you like red looks to me.
Because we both call it blue wouldn’t me that we see the same color, only that we were both told it’s blue.

You are doing the same thing your accusing others of doing. Your just doing it from the haters side.

Probably Bill would be trying to save his job, so he would need to move faster than a rookie QB. Maybe trade down, get lots of other talent and get a veteran QB?

Or maybe Kraft would tell him he had to take the consensus QB, which is what seemed to happen with Mac.

I don’t know how anyone can say for certain what he would do. I think the answers say more about the posters than it does about what absolutely would have happened.

Going off the 20 years or so I this ink inevitably a #3 pick in Belichicks mind is just going to be too much of a contract issue if he’s any good.

And in total fairness there’s morning wrong by building the lines out first and then finding the perfect talent around them
Not sure why this would be an issue with him. Contrary to popular opinion, he did pay top dollar for All-Pros like Ty Law, Stephon Gilmore, even Richard Seymour resigned. Is this because of Brady? That seems like an exception to me, a really weird case where he consistently took less over his entire career. But plenty of players were paid at the top of their profession. Of the handful that were finally let go or traded, they only had a few years left.

It really is amazing what a QB can do when the team rallies around him. I was saying for a while that the team needed a QB and that the talent around him would coalesce into a decent team.

QB & coaching are the foundations.

Campbell is huge for this team compared to what we had. But more or less, the rest of the talent is the same other than M Williams at DT, Moses at RT and Diggs at WR.

I know Chiasson and Landry fit Vrabel's scheme but to me, they aren't as good as the players Belichick had there a few years ago, especially Judon.

You 1000% twisted what he said in that video.

He complimented Maye's tools, then critiqued his deficiencies, and followed up by saying he's young and needs development and experience.

What specifically did you disagree with?

Haters gonna hate

First, people on both sides of this argument are talking as if their opinions are facts. They aren’t. None of us know what Belichick would have done. And there is enough evidence to support both sides of whether Belichick would have taken Maye or not.

Second, personally I think he would have traded down. I just don’t think he values QBs the way many do and teams were offering way too much for him to pass up.

People say that Belichick has never traded down a high first round pick. That is true, but he has also never taken an offensive player with a high first round pick. It was always defense. The highest he took an offensive player was Mac Jones at 15 and if you listen to Belichickstans he was pressured into taking Mac.

I just think Belichick would have felt he could win with McCarthy or Penix just as easily with Maye. I think he wouldn’t have seen enough of a difference to pass on multiple first round picks.

We will never know if Belichick would have taken Maye or not since he isn’t talking about it. That is the only fact we have.

Do you think he takes JJ at 3? Because there were no trades.

I am suspicious that this particular question is on your mind 'virtually every day'.

is there evidence that BB would have taken Maye at 3? I don’t see any. There’s plenty that he wouldn’t.
