Just got a lot on my mind, as I'm sure we all do. 4 thoughts for our 4th championship.
1. Tom Brady, GOAT. What he has done throughout his career is amazing. His play-off record is unmatched. And after the last two weeks where he's had his legacy and character and everything questioned, he answered the bell. And I think people also overlook the 2007 game where he struggled mightily, but led his team back to take the lead with 2:42 left in the game. If the defense held, that would have been another huge SB comeback. Just the greatest of all time. And if Elway could win a championship at 38, no reason Brady can't do it again next year.
2. Malcolm Butler, the Pick. Obviously a huge play. But I think it speaks volumes about the entire program. Here's an undrafted free agent playing in the final series of the Super Bowl. When BB tells an UDFA there's no hierarchy and you earn your playing time, he means it, and he proves it. And kudos to Butler for being ready. He very easily could have been a scratch. The Seahawks don't have overwhelming WRs and it was a bit of a toss-up between him and Jonas Gray for that last active spot. But he prepared as if he was not only going to be active, but play meaningful snaps. He wasn't part of the original plan, but he worked hard and prepared to be ready if needed. He was also part of that flukey Kearse catch, and while the rest of us at home were crying or hanging our heads, he got his focus back to make the biggest play of the game. Typical Patriot.
3. Danny Amendola, the guy we should have cut. We don't get past Baltimore without him, and he played a really solid game tonight. He didn't develop into the player we hoped when we signed him to that big contract, but he continued to persevere and find a role and make some huge plays throughout this play-off run for us.
4. Tom Brady, part II. When Brady took a big pay cut, it was with this season in mind. Could we pick up Revis if Brady were making Peyton money? Maybe, but then we definitely don't get Browner/LaFell. But Brady put his money where his mouth was when he said he winning was more important, and that's an overlooked part of this victory.
