Why is it that everyone who disagrees with the Pats decisions is immediately labeled as whiner?
For example, I though that we did well filling the position we needed, but would have prefered Troy Franklin over Ja'Lynn Polk. Am I whinning, no just disagree with the player chosen.

There is a difference between saying that you preferred Franklin over Polk and saying that because of it the front office are morons that don’t know what they are doing

I thought he was pretty fair on Maye. Had a lot of criticisms (mostly spot-on), also some effusive praise.

I like the Maye pick but it’s easy to see why BB might not be effusive with praise for him. When looking for QBs, BB advocated smart football players who were accurate and didn’t make mistakes. That’s not Maye. Maye has many other good attributes, but I can see why maybe he wouldn’t fit what BB looks for.

I would've been ok with Paul at #34, who was already my next-favorite LT besides Suamataia.

Here are the two main roads that Yesterday should've travelled:

- Paul / Suamataia at 37, then either Polk himself or his teammate McMillan, or Roman Wilson, at 68;

- Adonai Mitchell at 37, then Yale Left Tackle Kieran Amagadjie at 68.

Upon further review...

I didn't pay much attention to the trade made for #35 because I didn't yet know the details; but compared to what the Cardinals received for it, the Patsies FO was Anal ****ing Raped by Jimmy Harbaugh for #34. Instead of picking at 110 on Saturday, we should've been picking at 79 (or, even better, at 82 after the trade-down Arizona made with Indy) on Friday; Dropping 9 spots would Not have impacted what should've been our 2/3 targets at 34 or 43: LTs Kingsley Suamataia/Patrick Paul or WR Adonai Mitchell.

The up-dated version for what should've Really happened Day 2:

- Suamataia/Paul at 43; Polk or McMillan/Roman Wilson at 68; and McMillan/Wilson, or TE JaTavion Sanders, at 82... NT McKinley Jackson, LB Payton Wilson, FS Kamren Kinchens or CBs TJ Tampa/Khyree Jackson all would've been understandable choices too.

Or

- Mitchell at 43; LT Kieran Amagadjie at 68; and Sanders at 82 to help keep Mitchell motivated.

I completely disagree with this take.

When you are lacking talent like we did you just not swing for the fences on every pick. That’s just stupid. You need to establish a base line. You need to pick safe player that you know that even if they don’t reach their max ceiling are still good players.

Maye was the swing for the fences. They added two safer pick at WR with guys that are football players they have strong hands with a great catch radius that will help compensate some of Maye inaccuracies.

Next year will be a good time to take risks and be aggressive. This year just wasn’t.

It's one thing to just say 'well, I think I disagree on that pick, I might have prefered X', it's another to scream 'This sux, these picks are OBVIOUSLY terrible, these guys are MORONS!!1!11!'

We get too much of the latter.

Yeah, I hate comma splices too. The punctuation at the end is a little idiosyncratic as well. As for the content, I have seen virtually no such commentary here. I have seen talk of how great it is that all of our needs are now met, grades of A+, and so on. That way lies true lunacy.

The trade value chart says we came out ahead on the trade by 6.5

The Falcons OTOH gave up entirely too much but that shouldn’t be a surprise after what happened a night earlier.

Perhaps it is you who sucks at recognizing talent. Even BGC who does more work at this than any of the other posters here still only gets a fraction of the information that the teams get. This is a multi billion dollar industry, these teams invest huge amounts in these players and even they don't come up with consensus. Thinking you know way more than the people entrusted making these decisions is the height of idiocy.

Suggesting all 32 franchises are well run is the height of idiocy. And having more information doesn’t equate to making smart decisions.

Like I said earlier, half the franchises or maybe more are run by morons.

Former Washington head coach Jay Gruden once benched his third down RB because the player was boning the woman Jay was cheating on his wife with. The backup RB missed a blitzing defender and it nearly cost QB Alex Smith his life and ended his career prematurely.

Brian Flores told us the story of meeting with the Broncos brass about the head coaching position and how they showed up to the meeting drunk.

Don’t tell me these guys are beyond criticism, if they were… the level of turnover we see in coaching and front office staff annually wouldn’t be as high as it is.

I make my draft board prior to the draft, the players are ranked before the draft. If the prospect sucks or gets taken way too high I’m going to complain about it. I’m doing now exactly what I did when BB drafted Ronnie Perkins in the 3rd round… a shtty prospect is a shtty prospect.

Nah… I slammed BB draft picks all the time. There just weren’t a bunch of BB haters telling us we were wrong.

Some people are blowing sunshine up our azzes simply because Bill is gone so anything is better than him.

The reality is the large majority of good to great players on our 2024 roster are the guys he left us.

Wolf was smart to bring back Brissett, draft Maye, sign Gibson and Takitaki… beyond that most outside personnel additions have been bad. After Maye, they choked the draft away.

For anyone that makes their own big board, do the rest of us a solid and post it to the draft forum. Helps out by giving a ballpark of where these players could go and adds some context as to why you think we may have gotten a steal or reached.

Because this year if you swing and miss then you are nowhere.

The Patriots where just not in position this year to take many swing for the fence. They need to put people on base first to score. Doesn’t seem to me that’s a really hard concept to understand.

No Polk is not the burner that we wanted but he is absolutely a major upgrade to the room. Have no problem with the pick.

The burners were there at 3 but we went QB. I’m fine with that too.

Polk ran the same Forty Time that Michael Pittman Jr. ran (4.52). Granted, Pittman Jr. is 2 inches taller and weighs more. I'm curious to see what Polk can become, let alone if they actually manage to get a legit Outside X WR for him to complement at some point.

They did have Wallace in for a top 30 visit so maybe they really did have him rated as their top OT prospect even at #37.

But if they had Paul rated higher than it was a mistake not taking him there because even if Polk didn't last to their pick in the 3rd their was still plenty of WRs with impact potential left to draft at that spot like Jermaine Burton or Roman Wilson.

Only time will tell if they made the right decision. After watching some videos of Polk I can see the appeal and he is definitely not another Harry.

Yep. I never understood the comparison's with Harry. They are not yet even remotely warranted.

Its not about filling needs! Mac Jones and Harry and Isaiah Wynn filled needs. Its about bringing in difference makers who can compete at the highest level.
I am fine with Drake Maye but Polk over Mcconkey no that is a reach. The PSU OL is just another JAG.

If they don't rush Maye along (and they absolutely shouldn't) and properly coach him, combined with providing the talent around him when he does start (via the 2025 free agency and draft), then the pick of Maye alone will be outstanding. Although I'll do the wait and see approach with how the other picks work out, I too didn't see enough boldness in the Patriot's draft after picking Maye. This is a multi-year rebuild, but I didn't see them at least trying to get a Braelon Allen or Issac Guerendo for RB help (we're pretty thin there talent and talented depth-wsie) and choosing a get another OG! We could have packaged picks from rounds 5 to 7 this year and next year and acquired not just players at positions where there are needs, but even better prospect's at those positions. I don't dislike the Polk pick as I think he can be a solid #2. But, I just believe that with the exception of Maye, the rest of the choices that they made in the draft were underwhelming (and at times, I wondered if BB was still running the draft).

Yeah I think it's reasonable to be excited that we have 2 new WR that could be hidden gems.. Polk & Baker could be our next Edelman even if definitely not that WR1 Wolf said he was trying to bring in.

And yet it's also reasonable to question the picks.. given our current room of steady but unspectacular WR 3/4's, and now we have ended up with a room of.. you guessed it - even more WR 3/4's. Did we really "get better"... or stay about the same at WR. Extra depth to be sure but definitely another few years of no true no.1, as we aren't going to burn our R1 pick next year at receiver, given taking 2 so high this year.

Personally, I'd have packaged the 2 picks together taken to take a swing at Worthy, Legette, Thomas Jr.. players with huge athleticism and clear WR1 gamebreaking potential. I feel like we needed quality over quantity at WR. Have the deep threat for Maye when the pocket breaks down and compliments his strengths perfectly.

No one here is right or wrong yet.. whining and celebrating both allowed..
