PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP 2026 Patriots Training Camp - Day 10

A trade after 1 Jun 27 is a $3M dead cap hit. ( iirc from OTC )
I think that is a solvable problem if he doesn’t end up with more than 500 yards in 2026.

And maybe by end of season he figures it out and is worth keeping in 27.
OR who the hell knows, maybe he figures it out by Sep-Oct.
You can’t trade a dude you just signed to a big FA contract. Terrible optics, and good luck getting other FA’s to sign

One thing I don't like is Jennings immediately jumping in at RB3. I had some interest in him last year at this time, but compared to Larison/Miller/Monty, he doesn't have half the burst, athleticism or moves that those guys have. Let alone threat in the pass game - which we need in that RB3 role.
Perhaps staff think that he is better at picking up the blitz, the #1 requirement of RB3.

You look for burst and pass-catching ability.

Your requirements many be different from that of the team.

Personally, I like Miller.

In any case, the team can simply be giving him reps so that they can better make decisions.

Has marcellas dial done anything? I was hoping he could be the boundary back up
He hasn’t done much. Prunty is the leader at this point on the outside.

Yep…Jennings is probably the best blocker out of the backups but he’s slow. Montgomery has burst, Miller has a nice jump cut and can get tough yards.

2027!!! PUUHHHLEASE. Get real with your fantasy objections. IF Pats give him a whole 15 months to get with the program and he can’t & THEN They trade him post 1 June 2027. how the heck does that = Bad optics.

If they did it Sep 2026 (which they can’t financially), …..MAYBE bad, But IMO you could still sell the „optics“ as …. ‚hey, we BOTH made a bad choice. Thought it would work in our system…..but this is best for both the player and our team. ‚

When did Phil Perry turn into such a prick? He asked Drake today about his contract for next year and phrased it "are you concerned about your contract extension talks for next year based on what is going on with Gonzalez". What a stupid question to ask Drake and the way he phrased it was so unnecessarily drama filled. Of course, now it is the entire first spot on Boston Sports Tonight. I can't stand the Boston sports media, even the good ones eventually turn into click bait, rage baiting ass holes. Except for Mike Reiss who I respect for not going down this path. There used to be a distinction between Boston Sports Talk which has always been this way and other journalists but with Social Media they all act like this now. Journalism is dying a slow death not just in sports and it is not healthy.

I noticed this with Perry last year.
Stirred up Diggs drama without much basis.
He's another on the path to full douchebag.
Tip for ya Phil, you aren't important, never will be, now go eff off.

Easy killer . I thought the suggestion was trading him before THIS season. Which just isn’t done. Simple mistake.

I don't know why anyone is surprised by Doubs' slow start. He is playing in a COMPLETELY different offensive system. For instance, he's never been asked to make decisions based on the coverage AFTER the ball has been snapped. That is not something that is easy OR fast. It takes time and 10 practices isn't going to make it happen.

If it's still a problem in October, THEN I'd be a little more concerned. BTW how many YEARS did Jules say it took before he finally "got" the offense and people are ready to jump up and pat themselves on their back and say, "I told you so" about Doubs after 10 practices.

No harm, no foul. I thought I was clear in first post, guess you misunderstood. Enough side chatter that confuses…. WE all good.

I've noticed he's getting like Curran acting like he's the authoritative figure when it comes to the Pats. Reiss is still a humble guy to this day. He would answer everyone during his chats way back in the day at Boston Globe.

Slow start is especially explainable if Drake is focused on AJB.

Can’t speak for anyone else. I’ve tried to say he COULD STILL TURN IT AROUND OR GET THERE BY MID-season.

But, my argueing has been more focused about NOT TRADING BOUTTE, than about use of Doubs.
- Hope is not a plan. You can’t give away Boutte with the hope that Doubs and Drake will start clicking. You have to see it first. And even then, I would still put myself in the don’t trade Boutte camp. Play all 3. but that just my opinion.

He's been the #1 WR in GB the last 3 seasons, but has been extremely mediocre who can't even crack 800 yards in a WR friendly offense. Now you're asking him to take on more responsibilities? That, if anything, is a reason to be seriously concerned.

The go to defense when a WR is struggling. But this is a terrible comparison. Julian Edelman was learning a new position while Doubs has been playing WR for a very long time. As a rookie, Edelman still managed to catch 359 yards playing behind Randy Moss and Wes Welker. On the other hand, Doubs caught 425 yards playing behind the legendary Allen Lazard and fellow rookie Christian Watson.

Media hasn't been impressed with Doubs since day 1. You guys are reaching for the stars trying to defend this guy.

I am 1000% in the keep him camp.
Reasons to trade him:
He could be a distraction - All speculation, I've seen a guy showing up and working hard.
He won't be here beyond next year - Again, speculation. Chances are no, but nothing is for sure.
We can get a pick - is a 5th rounder really worth the insurance he would provide THIS year?
We would have to cut a young WR with potential - Again, pure speculation. No one knows how the team feels about Chism and the UDFAs on the team. Young WRs with potential are available as UDFAs every year. And there is a very good chance the current guys would clear waivers and make the PS without another team claiming them.

Reason to keep him:
He is a bonafide NFL WR who knows our system and has made plays and fits the strengths of our QB very well.
Injuries happen, he could easily move up the pecking order with an injury and the drop off would be significantly less than throwing a Rookie UDFA out there.
If he signs elsewhere next year, would the comp pick be much different than the 5th or 6th rounder we would get in a trade?
He would help us win THIS year, a year in which we have realistic SB hopes.

This isn't about what Boutte wants, it's about what makes the team better.

Keeping him makes us better.

Jordan Love has had under 3400 passing yards each of the past 2 seasons.
GB had the 17th ranked passing attack last year.
GB had the 12th ranked passing attack in 2024.

Not sure it's as WR friendly as you think.

I agree with that totally. I used to really like Curran, then he went sour. Then Perry was legit...now he is just farming for controversy. How athletes can play in Boston is kinda beyond me. If there isn't an issue they will try to manufacture one.

I say it is a reason we need to move Boutte....need to move Williams up to get more time to gel with Maye.
Boutte had 551yrds last year, not a lot of production to replace
What happens if Williams is a block head. Then we lose a good WR for a block head

In one of those seasons, Josh Jacobs was the 6th leading rusher. GB has leaned on the run the last two seasons because they don't have capable players in the passing game. It's that simple. Josh Allen has averaged about 3,700 passing yards the last two seasons because his WR's are crap. Buffalo had to shift to featuring Cook. Patriots couldn't throw the ball well in 2018, so they had to shift to the run.

LaFluer comes from the Shanahan coaching tree which has always been known as WR friendly. However, you need capable WR's which GB hasn't had any since Adams left. SF has also had trouble running their passing offense the last two seasons because their WR's are crap. Andy Reid in KC has had trouble since Hill left and had to rely on their defense straight up suffocating opposing offenses (and the refs).

What's the next excuse for Doubs?

No one is making excuses for Doubs.
You however seem to be making a lot of excuses for why GB's WR friendly offense hasn't been so WR friendly the past 2 years.
Doubs hasn't played a single game here, and already you're writing him based on him not being a 1000 yard WR in an offense that hasn't been a prolific passing attack for 2 years.
I will defer judgment until I see how he performs in our offense.
