2026 Draft: WR

Obviously very early. Wouldn't shock me. Good player.

The difference between the 1st and 3rd round isn't that great. Can sometimes be hard to predict a week before the draft, much less 8 months. But stranger things have happened.

With me you have to keep it simple. I am not going to know all the comps. I am lucky that I recognized Tyquan and Harbor are both track athletes, and not overly coordinated, so they have to catch with their bodies, not their hands. I was proud of myself for recognizing that.

However, I am clever enough to see that signing FAs by need and drafting BPA is the best strategy.

And I lived in Brum for 4 years and my son was born in England. We are almost half brothers.
Just down the road

Of course it's early, but I have to say, I'm a little underwhelmed by this WR class so far. However, I may have found my mid-round guy for the year.

Germie Bernard, Alabama 6-1, 209lbs

What I like:

1. He reminds me of Emeka Egbuka with his ability to get open in zone coverage in the intermediate parts of the field.

2. He screams Josh McDaniels 'Z' to me.

3. Smart guy and looks as NFL ready as most receivers I see. One thing that frustrates me about CFB WRs is the one foot in bounds rule which must slow NFL development. On a number of occasions, I've seen Bernard do the two foot touch on sideline plays which tells me he'll need less time to adjust to the NFL.

4. In '24, he split time between the slot and out wide equally giving him McDaniels worthy versatility.

5. Only 2 drops all last year.

6. As 'Bama crumbled in their first game against FSU, Bernard did not with 8/146. 82% of his snaps in that game were out wide.

7. I haven't seen anything negative about his character, only positives.

As you may know, I'm someone who loves a WR that just does everything right, even if that does mean sacrificing higher end traits. Bernard is that for me.

I know a head coach who values leadership from his players.

Bernard pt 3

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS

  • Reliable hands: Consistently secures catches, showing good receiving skills and dependability as a target in crucial situations.
  • Route precision in the intermediate game is surgical, consistently creating separation with subtle head fakes and shoulder dips that leave defenders grabbing air.
  • Absolute monster in contested catch situations despite average height - plays much bigger than his frame suggests with elite body control along the boundary.
  • Deep ball tracking belongs in a museum - adjusts to throws in flight with the graceful timing of a symphony conductor working at the height of his powers.
  • Transitions from catch to runner with zero wasted motion - acceleration isn't elite but his first three steps after securing the catch are lightning quick.
  • Football IQ jumps off the screen - consistently finds soft spots against zone coverage like he's reading the defense's mail before the play.
  • Three-level route runner who threatens defenses everywhere - shows equal comfort and production in short, medium, and deep patterns.
  • Cross-training at multiple receiver positions gives him scheme versatility - can line up outside or in the slot without performance drop-off.

SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY

Bernard brings immediate value as a technician with alignment versatility and third-down reliability baked into his DNA. His route-running precision and trustworthy hands will endear him to quarterbacks who value timing and anticipation, particularly in critical situations where reliability trumps flash. His combination of technical refinement and football intelligence translates to a higher floor than most receivers in this class, even if his athletic ceiling remains a question mark.

Bernard thrives in the intermediate areas where his route nuance creates separation despite average long speed. His exceptional ball-tracking ability allows him to be a legitimate three-level threat - evidenced by how he consistently creates chunk plays downfield despite lacking burner speed. The most intriguing aspect of his game is how his deep and medium receiving abilities significantly outpace his athletic testing. He's one of those players whose production consistently exceeds what the stopwatch suggests should be possible.

What I love about Bernard's game is how it translates immediately to Sunday action. He shows veteran-like instincts finding soft spots against zone coverage and understands how to use subtle body manipulation to create separation in man coverage. He reminds me of receivers who may not dominate the combine but somehow always get open on third-and-seven. His special teams background provides additional value while he develops into a dependable secondary target who can occasionally take over games when matchups favor his technical prowess over pure athleticism.

On Nyck Harbor:

I would only draft him if:

A. He's worth taking in the first round. Let's face it, if he has a very good season, someone of his size, speed and the production to warrant a first round pick, will go in the first.

B. He's available on day 3. Like Deonte Thornton last year, someone with his traits could be worth a day 3 swing.

I don't know if I'd take him on day 2 because that would mean he hasn't taken the steps forward to warrant a first round pick and you want prospects you think are good enough to start or make significant contributions on day 2.

Agreed.

2 good Harbor scenarios for me:

1. He gets taken day 3.
2. He blows it up, and someone else reaches for him based on athleticism, pushing more good players down.

Todd McShay on Jordyn Tyson

"I think he's borderline an elite separator"

So Tyson can separate but can't catch?

7 drops on 113 targets last year for an 8.5% drop rate. Not amazing, but not terrible either. For comparisons sake, Tet had 8 and Kyle Williams and Emeka Egbuka had 5. It's certainly something to keep an eye on this year. He had 73 receptions last year so he can certainly catch the ball.

All good, just poking you since the video mentioned concerns about Tyson's hands.

Like Egbuka you say

What are opinions of Denzel Boston.

This is based off my summer scouting, so 2024 film.
- I would say he is a plus WR vs press as far as getting off the line but he is not explosive enough to create separation.
- Great body control and able to grab contested catches, because he does not separate much at all.
- He is able to manipulate defenders with jab steps/head nods, but again he is not explosive so CBs will be able to recover from missteps

I have really been interested in big body guys because we have a plethora of 5-10 to 6-1 guys.
I do not forsee Hollins here next year and I think that Maye enjoys having a big WR
