If the Pats truly want to get rid of Dugger, they may have to do an NBA style trade. This would include the Pats also throwing in a higher draft pick then what they receive back in return/if anything to give other team incentive to take on the remaining contract.

And Daboll will be on an extremely short leash this season.
The only time I’ve ever seen that happen in the NFL was with the Brock Ossweiler contract, because Houston owed a ton of future money. The Patriots only save $10.75m by trading Dugger instead of releasing him — certainly not chump change, but not enough to throw in a higher draft pick than what they get back.

That means we carry 7?
Starting to look to me as though the initial roster will be 7 WR and 3 RB, though that is sure to change.

I can't envision the team going through the season with only three running backs (3½ if you count TE Westover as a partial FB).

Very unfortunate that both Lampe and Larison will spend the entire season on injured reserve.

Yeah, I take it back. No idea.
I was hoping to see him go off tomorrow and earn a shot at 5he roster. More recently I’ve been think8ng maybe it’s better for him to go to the PS and have someone more valuable (OL?) use that roster spot instead of him.

That's my preference. I think the second or third backup OL is more likely to get used in a game than the 6th WR.

Would you give a 6th a Dugger for a 2027 7th?

Did he? Or was he dinged up?
It's more like, I better get on that damn plane and make one last stab at making this team.

No. That implies Dugger has negative value to the team. He’s not at that point, in my opinion.
Of course, Dugger's play has positive value. Let us say his play is worth $2M. The open question is whether we should give upa 6th ro gain $8M of 2026 cap space.

The more likely scenario would be for the Pats to pay a part of Dugger’s 2025 salary to facilitate at trade. This actually happens with some frequency rather than the Osweilor scenario. The Pats could redo did his contract paying him a bonus to reduce his salary before trading Dugger and his adjusted salary to his new team.

Agreed.

This requires the additional step of Dugger approving the trade.; but, yes.

Not necessarily. As pointed out here many times before, contracts are often written to allow the team to turn salary into a bonus without approval of the player as this is a method teams use extensively to gain cap space.

Things i am looking for in he final preseason game...

#1 Edge Depth - I think we will see a fair amount of Swinson and Ponder. I want to see if they can continue building on their camp. Neither has taken the world by storm (regardless of some glowing reports about Ponder) but they have flashed and overall we have been seeing more flashes as camp has gone on. So there is an overall upward trajectory here. I want to see that continue. I don't expect them to take a huge step up all the sudden, but i want to continue to see them build towards being good players either sometime this year or next year.

#2 Farmer - I don't know how the team feels about him. Is he a guy they have seen enough of and want to rest or are they going to just rest the top 3? Farmer has had an okay camp. But he has played closer to his pick location than his hype as a steal in the draft (much like Swinson). I want to see him continue to trend up. I want a big day from him if he plays.

#3 Demontrey Jacobs - If something happens to Campbell or Moses even for a short time Jacobs becomes the #3. He has had a good camp overall and has shown growth from last year, when he was simply not ready to start. Considering he entered the league in 2023 and is 26 i wonder how much upside he has left... but maybe there is more to be had. Let's see if he can continue his solid camp. So far he has played lower level players. This will be his likely first time getting the start (unless they decide they want to play Campbell... I don't think they do). And probably the best competition he's face in game action all year. I know the Giants probably won't play many guys either, but still he will likely see better competition at least early.

#4 Wooldridge - Dobbs was brought her to be a premium back up... he really isn't, him vs Wooldridge has been closer than it should. I don't think he takes his spot or anything, but wouldn't it be nice for him to have a big statement and say 'that's my job next year'? Wooldrigde i really think has the makings of a potential really good back up. A hopefully better and cheaper answer to the problem.

#5 6th CB. If Dugger isn't here that means 4 true safeties (not carrying Epps) So they will probably go 6 CBs. Schooler doesn't count. Who takes that job? As much a D question as a STs question.

Bob, Are you sure you don't mean Bryant for OT3? He's been the consensus there for a week or two with Lowe at OT4.
