2025 Draft: LBers

I was looking at Vrabel's final titans roster just to see if there was any guide to preferences. One thing I noted was their linebackers. They had two starters

1. Azeez al-Shair - over 1000 snaps
2. Jack Gibbens - over 600 snaps.

Gibbens is 6-2, 240 lbs while al-Shair is only 6-2, 228lbs. In terms of the draft, bear Jeffrey Bassa of Oregon in mind. His measurable? 6-2, 230lbs so almost identical to al-Shair.

Also, maybe don't expect a high pick at linebacker as the Titans seemed to use only one linebacker fairly regularly.

I recall having a positive reaction to Bassa in whatever all-star game he performed. I no longer remember why.

Would it be pie in the sky to think that with two space eating defensive tackles that Dugger, Peppers and Mapu could fill those roles?

Even if we pick Graham at #4, I hope we pick a space eater in R3 or R4.
This is the draft to do it.

Graham at 4 and Jordan Phillips or CJ West later would make me really excited to see this DL next year.
I'm a big fan of West, but you'd probably have two shorter arm DTs in that instance. West was 31.5"

Arm Length in DTs is not an issue for me as long as they have foot quickness and quick hands. Since they are changing defensive philosophies, I think this draft will allow them to reclaim/change their defensive identity.

I am also really excited to see Eric Johnson and Jaquelin Roy in this defense, I feel that they were not a good fit for a 2 gap scheme.

I've been looking at past Titans rosters just to get a feel for how Vrabel like his rosters built. In 2021 every single DT on the roster other than Simmons can into the league undrafted. So maybe the back of roster guys get a legitimate shot under Vrabel.

I have been watching a bunch of Titans defense under Vrabel and agree with you that everyone will get a legit shot. I think Vrabel cares more about good football rather than draft position or salary.

What have you learned?

Despite this Phins fans dweeb voice he is very astute at breaking down film.

I think Paul has become my favourite linebacker not named Jihaad. He's smart, instinctual, good in coverage and has sideline to sideline range. He's small by previous Patriots standards but does seem to fit the Vrabel type at 6-0, 227lbs.

I love the third play on this montage where, because he's not tall enough to catch the batted ball himself, he has the instincts to tap it to a teammate for the INT.

It's a shame we didn't get to see that defense in the CFP.

They certainly had some names on it. I wonder how they'll do next season after losing so many this year.

Any way we can draft Carson Bruener in the 7th or snag him UDFA? Part of me wants to see his dad cry salty tears again.

Mind you this is without the benefit of all 22. It has been difficult to actually nail anything of significance, but here goes. The front is multiple but leans more even with sprinkles of an under front. It looks like there is a majority of cover 4 in the secondary, I could be wrong. I have seen people mention his defense as an odd front, so maybe I am off base.

It also appears that the was alot of press/bale into zone. much of this is guessing based highlight reels of broadcast. I know this didn't really educate much, sorry.

Edit: I forgot to mention it is a fast attacking front 7, which I feel like we knew already.

Yeah that pretty much tracks with what I've been reading. With regards to the front, I think it might be a 3-man front but with one of the OLBs up on the line and the quarters coverage tracks although I watched a video that said that the coverages get mixed up a lot although I think mainly quarters. He rarely blitzes but when he does it's still only rushing 4 because of the DL will drop. It doesn't sound like a particularly attacking defense but as we saw with the SB, one that can smother an offense with the right personnel.

I got the attacking part because the front 4 seem to be pinning their ears back and trying to penetrate
