2025 Draft: Defensive Tackles

Yeah I'm out on Campbell in the top 10. He's a guard IMO.
Honestly? If that ended up happening and he ends up being a guard, not the worst thing in the world. Still have a hole in the interior and he makes the line better overall.

Could make an Alaric Jackson signing interesting, since he's played both sides. If Campbell pans out on the left, you can shift him over. If Campbell has to kick inside, you have Jackson to play at left.

Yeah I'm passing on a T'rex arm Tackle also. That won't cut it at the next level.

I agree that ideally Campbell isn't a top 10 guy but there has to be a reason that Brugler, Jeremiah and Brandon Thorn all still have him as their no 1 OL and in the top 10. Let's not get too down on him; there's clearly still a lot of talent there.

I do think Layden will develop and we have Onwenu. I'm more concerned about center but hopefully Strange can be the longterm solution there.

I really like the idea of Campbell at OG. One reason is that he clearly has plus level character and football intelligence. Jackson and Campbell on the left hand side of the OL would be a massive upgrade.

I'm just glad we've completely ruled out Banks. Speaking of and to get us back on topic watch this clip of Tyleik Williams...

More Tyleik...

Re Banks. his leaning forward is exactly what bothers me for that very reason. NFL defenders will do that to him all the time.

Re Tyleik. The only knock on him seems to be that he takes off plays but if he can be motivated, he's a beast of a run defender.

Will Campbell. Franchise OT’s are too hard to find, even if you consider him more of an 8-10 value on your board.

If you truly don’t like Campbell at all, trade down.
I think he will be a good LT but he is not a franchise corner stone type in my opinion. I know you say trade down but I think Carter and Graham have the ability to be cornerstones for 8 years.

I do like the trade down option a lot though because there are going to be some really talented players in the 2nd round.

Alaric has been my FA target, he is young-ish and equally good at run and pass blocking.

I am not down on Campbell. BUT if he is a guard, how much better is he than Robinson in Y2, or Strange coming back from injury or J Andrews coming back from injury?

For comparison, how much better is Carter than Wise Jr? How much better is Graham than Pharms or Ukulele? How much better is Hunter than J Jones or Austin or Bolden?

Well Campbell was a starter at LSU since his arrival on the team, calls the protections for the OL and is still graded the top OL in this draft by people who should know, even if they consider him to be a guard. Robinson on the other hand was graded out of college as a UDFA and had pretty appalling grades last season. So I'd say that going into next season thinking that neither Robinson or Strange could do with competition, at the least, or an upgrade would be a mistake.

As for your three comparisons, all three are higher on my board than Campbell and I'd take them all ahead of him except in one scenario. That's if Carter and Hunter are already off the board and the team determines that drafting the best OL in a fairly weak class after a trade down and then picking up DTs later in an extremely strong and deep class, has more value than drafting Graham. For me it's debatable but I can see an equation that looks like the below being defensible:

Campbell + 2nd round pick + (for eg) Darius Alexander and CJ West > Mason Graham

I'd be very happy with Graham but I do think the other side of the equation has merit too. What I would be disappointed by is taking Campbell at 4.

Campbell + 2nd round pick + (for eg) Darius Alexander and CJ West > Mason Graham
Now if you were to sell me on

Cambell + 2nd round pick + (for eg) Darius Alexander and CJ West < Mason Graham + Jared Wilson + Dylan Fairchild

I'd be listening. What I think is a really bad idea is to go into the season relying on Robinson and Strange alone.

Obviously the draft is a crapshoot and there's various draft gurus who don't always see eye to eye on every prospect. I think Layden falls into that category but I'm not going to belabor the point any further than that. Coaching is another aspect to consider since we are basically starting from scratch here for the 2nd year in a row. How they respond will go a long way in gaining knowledge into their development.

I don't know if Robinson will make it or not. The guy is super strong and has really long arms. I saw a replay of Robinson throwing Ed Oliver on the ground like a rag doll. He missed a lot of delayed blitzes and stunts for sure, but I assume that is coaching. Not the most mobile, but the guy is a tank, no-one will ever bull rush Robinson.

Really don't know which way he will turn in Y2. I was not high on him, but he did get better as the year went on - less mistakes and better pass blocking. Robinson could turn the corner in Y2. Kid has a good attitude.

Not to be confused with Shemar Stewart...Shemar Turner is another AGGIE DL ranked in the top 50.

But apparently didn't score well amongst his peers. Apologies if I already posted this

Of that list only Harmon is an every down DL in my opinion, and just as a personal thing, I'm not a big fan of just having a
DT coming on for pass rush situations, particularly when we have White who can do that role. I'd much rather draft a pass rushing EDGE player like Josaiah Stewart who can come in and shift White inside.

That's not a knock on those players, just a personal approach to roster building.
