yes. AVP saying it was thrown to the right spot is more of an indictment of himself than an exoneration of Maye as far as I’m concerned. I mean, it looks like the safety didn’t even have to move. I’d like to see the previous five seconds or so to be sure but from what I see on that video clip if that’s where Douglas was expected to run it’s running right into coverage.

I’m also taking that statement as meaning our offense has regressed. He’s saying receivers are expected to run to a specific spot regardless of defense, where previously our offense keyed on what the defense was doing to go where defenders were not. That explains a lot.

Of course Maye is AVP’s guy, Van Pelt is the QB whisperer responsible for developing him, so how much is this really the OC sticking up for his main man by throwing Pop under the bus?
Douglas is supposed to stop in front of the safety at the 50 not run into him, the safety caught it at the 49. He would have had to go over or thru DD to try to make a play. Yeah DD would have had to reach up above his head but no way it is picked if DD stops. Maybe broken up but not picked.

Tell me about it. I was there and the play was down our end. But, trust me, that WAS NOT me!

Me either, and I was in section 109!

I think one of the reasons why some in the crowd were confused about when to cheer is that, except for 3rd-down stands, the defense gave us very little for which to cheer and so they figured they might as well be excited about something... And the only Something we have here is the rookie QB.

Most knowledgeable and passionate fans in the country (or so I read) ...

I don't know if it's that or the fact that every game this year finds me surrounded by a new bunch of people, maybe new football fans unaware that you don't cheer your offense when they're at the LOS. I used to sit in my cousin's season ticket seats for years and I got to know the people around those seats. I've sat in my new seats in 205 for most games this year and I've yet to recognize one repeated face around me.

So why have coaches if the player is just supposed to figure everything out for himself?

It’s on the coaching. Either teach him not to make those mistakes or play someone else who doesn’t.
Thousands of people coach football every day using many of the same techniques from a century ago. It isn't brain surgery.

I'm sure that our current coaches, as new as they are, have given the players the instruction they need. If players repeat mistakes it's on the player, not the coach. Hopefully, both the coaches and players will learn from those mistakes.

Coaching involves teaching, motivating, planning, adjusting. Are the coaches good at planning? Are they making the right adjustments? That's where I have my doubts.

Perhaps I missed it but I think we move from 6,to 5 in the draft as Cleveland won on Thursday. Help the old man and confirm or deny my ramblings.

Coaches decide what players are on the field and what players are on the bench.

If a player continues to make mistakes and continues to play that’s on the coach.

So every teacher is the same, none are any better than others and if the student doesn’t learn it’s just their one fault?

Yeah that's an excellent point, hadn't thought of it that way.

Or go here - I set up something here that tracks the Patriots' draft position, and it updates after I update each group of NFL games for that given week:
