He did not want to go elsewhere because elsewhere would have blown his cover - that he was just LARPing as a knowledgeable coach while Steve B did the heavy lifting. Staying here allowed him to parlay his poseur status to the next level.
Holley made a good point... he said mayo never wanted to come into coaching.. he said Bill courted him into it. He should have went elsewhere first.

The defense was “great” last year ya I can tell.

nah they were ****e.
The defense allowed around 23 points per game last season to teams .500 and above. It would’ve been more had the offense not spotted the opposing defense pick sixes and fumble returns for TD’s. Offenses took their foot off the gas because of this. This year’s team doesn’t have the same excuse. They’ve allowed 30.5 points per game without pick sixes or fumble returns for TD’s.

Aside from injuries, the only difference is how disorganized/undisciplined they look. Bill did the best he could with what he had, but the lack of talent is exposing Mayo. No matter who the HC is going forward, this defense needs talent everywhere.

Interesting tidbits:

-Apparently, Marcus Jones texted AVP about being involved in the offense. So it was not AVP deciding to use the guy on offense, the guy had to text him and ask.

-Polk was not wrong when he had the false start, he went on Maye's cadence and was right in front of Maye, the rest of the team dd not hear it, due to crowd noise. You notice Maye waving his arms for silence after the play, that's why. Mayo also said the play was going to be a TD in his opinion so I wonder if Maye was going out for a pass? See if they pull that play out again.

-Mayo confirmed Douglas went to the wrong spot and Maye thru the last pass/interception to the right spot.

Boutte ask for that Go Route against the Texans sounds familiar?? AVP is a mickey mouse OC: on Douglas he's kinda meh we would have been Beasting with Ladd McConkey.

That's sucks Team not the same page @ Home too. Well I will give Polk a pass if that's the case: he could make it up with some actual plays on the football field.

Well, I gave AVP a little bit of credit for trying something new. Take that back

Ugh! Shout as loud as you can when the D is on the field. Shut up when the Offense has the ball. How hard is that?

If a player is out of position or taking dumb penalties that's on him, not the coaching.
So why have coaches if the player is just supposed to figure everything out for himself?

It’s on the coaching. Either teach him not to make those mistakes or play someone else who doesn’t.

It could be a rookie mistake where Maye did not recognize that the rest of the team could not hear him. It is very encouraging to see him build on each game without letting any situation rattle him. My guess is that he will do a better job next time.

This game was one of the worst for Patriots fans cheering the offense. It was bad a couple of times.

Tell me about it. I was there and the play was down our end. But, trust me, that WAS NOT me!

Me & my daughter were yelling "Quiet" as the offense came to the line of scrimmage. A lot of us were yelling "Quiet" & "Shut up" TBH.

That play had very poor spacing Douglas and Henry was too close to each-other...they played right into the Defenses hands. The Safety wouldn't have made that play if we were a little more spaced. The Route combinations on that play leaves a lot to be desired: that's why i'm not high on AVP.

yes. AVP saying it was thrown to the right spot is more of an indictment of himself than an exoneration of Maye as far as I’m concerned. I mean, it looks like the safety didn’t even have to move. I’d like to see the previous five seconds or so to be sure but from what I see on that video clip if that’s where Douglas was expected to run it’s running right into coverage.

I’m also taking that statement as meaning our offense has regressed. He’s saying receivers are expected to run to a specific spot regardless of defense, where previously our offense keyed on what the defense was doing to go where defenders were not. That explains a lot.

Of course Maye is AVP’s guy, Van Pelt is the QB whisperer responsible for developing him, so how much is this really the OC sticking up for his main man by throwing Pop under the bus?

TE Hunter Henry looks like the safer play if you ask me...he would have hauled that High pass in. That's asking a lot from a midget... it was said last year that Pop Douglas was running the wrong routes in BOB Offense: so he has a perchant for doing those things.

I still can’t fault Pop on the INT. Every time I watch the video all I see is it’s behind him and so high it’d be over his head if he wasn’t five steps past it. I don’t get folks saying it’s because he didn’t look for the ball. Even if he looked he would have to turn upfield and physically occupy the space the safety was occupying when the ball got there. He would’ve had to look when Drake had just thrown the ball in order to have time to adjust and get to where he could have caught it. Even then he’d still be a smug competing with an NFL sized safety for the catch. POP’s game is separation and being open and on that play he wasn’t.

You’re right. Or it would’ve been perfect if Henry was running that route instead of Pop. He’s got the size to catch it in traffic where Pop doesn’t. Definitely would’ve been better if Maye threw it to Henry. Heck if he threw it to Henry as far off target as he threw it to Douglas it would’ve been right in Pop’s hands.

You nailed it right there: the lack of a decent boundary WR is killing us on Offense. I don't know how you call a play like that to Pop Douglas.
