I've been in a bunch of different NFL locker rooms over the years, including several on the other side when the Dolphins weren't so hot post-Dan Marino. And in most, if you laid an egg like that (they trailed 31-0 at one point) against a divisional opponent — especially one that entered with a 4-6 record — you'd pretty much expect everyone to be miserable, irritable and not a whole lot of fun to talk to. I can almost guarantee you Jason Taylor probably would have stared daggers at me for asking a question, if not made me look like a fool with his response (hey, it's a long and illustrious career).

It wasn't that way in the Patriots' locker room after the game. Guys were affable and insightful. There were even smiles and some jokes. There was no tension in the air, where you feel like you need to walk on eggshells. There was no whiff of players being pissed off or embarrassed, which made the rank-and-file the complete opposite of fans at home and on social media, who were venting hot and heavy after this one.“

The culture of this team is ****. They don't take it seriously. There is a serious lack of leadership and accountability.

When the HC says there is nothing he can do for the players once they step over the sidelines, that sets the tone.

That's the vibe that the new-approach of Kraft/Mayo were seeking, is it not? A locker room where everyone is having fun, no one hears harsh words or suffers scary scowls from the HC, one where those embarrassing pictures of paleo-boomer over-achievers have been banished along with obsolete "Do Your Job" signage in favor of "When We Win, We Win Together,"(*)

Yeah I don't really have an issue with that. It was a 2min drive at that point and yards mattered more.

That was one thing that really helped Belichick when he first started here. The team stunk, yeah, but there were leaders in that locker room who wouldn’t allow this crap to happen. They would be calling out poor play on the field.

This problem existed pre-Mayo, there were concerns about lack of real leadership with the current crop of players under Belichick. But it was never this bad before.

He might be the only guy that Kraft would listen too at this point, if Brady would call "pops" and give him an earful of how horribly embarrassing this team has become in less than a year - due to office & coaching hires.

Yes, but he's too blind due to emotional attachments - based on his personnel decisions.
ie: He would NEVER fire Mayo after this year if left to his own thoughts. He needs a hard dose of reality.

In fact, someone on the coaching staff needs to get fired this bye week - just to send a message.

And Mayo will piss away the rest. Even if Wolf magically does wonders with those resources, the limitant of handing it all to Mayo puts a hard ceiling on the team.

Understandable, but firing coaches in the middle of the season is a JETE thing to do. No one can transform a team at this stage.

I don't need the team to be transformed but I'd like to stop the bleeding. Send a message. Stop them from imparting a really bad culture on your rookies - namely your QB.

There are many ways to ruin a QB, and one is to teach him that it's fine to lose - losing is no big deal - let's all giggle and laugh and have fun after getting ass blasted by a division rival - wanna go shoot some hoops? - it's not your fault anyway!
