He got it right.
He determined the 2 early so he was aware they needed 3 scores, 2 more.

If you kick the point and play as if it’s a one score game then you miss the 2 point conversion you didn’t play like you needed 2 scores. The way he did it he found out early rather than when it was too late.

I hate to defend Mayo here but the 2 point conversion call is at the bottom of the list of my gripes for him. You are gonna need the 2 point conversion at some point anyway. If you get it, good. If you don't, now you have more time to make up for it than if you missed it on the second touchdown score.
