MHJ def has a far better chance at being an all-time great compared to any of the QBs in the top 3, but the real question is do you pass up on a Dak Prescott type of QB in the draft? I have not seen anyone that thinks any of the top three will bust.
We obviously want the true franchise QB like the GOAT or Mahomes, but if our scouts say that these dudes are top15-20 type of guys at worst it's going to be hard to pass that up
Someone lin the top 3 will bust. Aside from 04, they almost always do. Daniele has questions about his physical metrics. Williams has questions about his mental make up and game translating. Maye has the least questions but he’s also not exceptional and similar comps have busted.

If any of them bust, there’s reasons to look back and go “yeah this and this should have been considered more”. Trevor Lawrence looks underwhelming and he was considered an Elway/Manning/Luck prospect.

Yup. A left tackle is an important position. But they can’t fix the line by themselves. A single WR has more of an impact on getting guys open in his until then a tackle does
I wouldn’t be terribly upset if they picked him. He would solve a huge need. If they were to do that I’d expect a trade with either Arizona, Chargers or Giants.

Having Alt/Fashanu combined with Sow, Onwenu is very solid. Center is also a strong position in this draft and I’m hoping they get one between the 3rd and 5th round to be Andrews replacement. That’s a complete rebuild of a horrible weakness for this team.
Only 2 or so players drafted last season made starts at LT and they weren’t in the first round. You don’t get Alt or Fashanu and the odds of finding a LT decrease significantly.

However, I also buy in that if you think that qb is the guy than you take him. 100% confident.

I’m easy to please, I like the thought of having Harrison too

Yes, Onwenu at $18M AAV is a very solid RG. He isn't a top RT.

As much as I like Caleb Williams tools as a QB like others, I’m turned off by the crying and other stuff.

Was discussing it with my friend yesterday and he asked “How many USC QBs have been great in the NFL?” I paused and thought about it until Carson Palmer came to mind. We discussed some of the others and were disappointed with the names that came up and decided at the end that Carson Palmer was a good to excellent but not great. Maybe due to the knee injury. So none.

Then I brought up how many great QB’s in the NFL did Wyoming have before Josh Allen?

Caleb Williams is an interesting prospect to say the least. Colin Blowhard was a bit over the top with the generational bit, but there are a lot of scouts that really like this guy at the 1 spot. To me that says a lot about his projected talent. We could do a lot worse.

Kliff Kingsbury withdrew himself from consideration for the Raiders OC job and is now in talks with the Commanders. Makes sense if the Commanders are engineering a trade up to 1 to take Caleb.

A "deep" draft at a particular position means different things to different folks.

Most mediots focus on the top of the first, or, at most the first couple of rounds.

Some look to the 3rd and 4th and consider whether solid contributors are available there. This year, many see solid OT's and WR's available in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

QB's is the hardest group to predict. The league needs a couple of dozen QB's every year. Few teams have solid starters, backups and emergency QB's. Even hitting on a solid backup is very iffy. This is a consequence of the considerable difference between the college and pro game. Great WR's and RB's, LB's and DL's are likely to predictably succeed; QB's and OL's not so much.
================
We 100% NEED a franchise QB. What does that mean? How many are in the league at any given time? How many are successful. Folks here seem to point to the top 10 at best. That's fine to aim at, but one can "succeed" without a top 10 QB, while still looking for one.
==========
Of course, for very spoiled patriot fans, all that matters is how many SB's did you win in the last 5-10 years? Well. then prepared to be disappointed. Very. very few teams win SB's in any decade.

and when they fail?

Considering how amateurish the coach and coaching staff interviews have gone, and the lack of GM interviews, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Pats **** up the #3 overall pick and draft an OT. Watch them trade up to #1 and take an OT. It would be par for the course for this current regime of buffoonery. The fact that Kraft is letting Laurel & Hardy (Groh &Wolf) run this draft and make the decisions is embarrassing, and leads to these kinds of **** ups. Should have hired a GM on day one. The franchise is being run like a losing franchise we all used to laugh at.

I’ve been a Pat’s fan since 1975, I’m not saying I would switch teams if they screw this up and take an OT at #3. I just wouldn’t be as emotionally invested like I have been the last 48 seasons. I would find other things to do on Sundays.
I wish I could disagree with you but I cannot.

I am very unimpressed with the Pats’ moves this post season.

It does feel like what we were used to seeing before Parcells and then BB.

If the Pats screw this up then will lose longtime fans because it didn’t need to be this way.

Taking Alt at 3 would be a massive misuse of assets. Want a tackle, fine, trade back with someone that wants a QB or MHJ. Would be misstep to start a new regime.

Edit: That is not a knock on Alt as a player. Would love his a our LT for the next 10 years.

Lose long time fans? Don’t worry about us long time fans, the ones before the Brady/BB Parcells/Bledsoe have been through some tough times and we’re still here. Get a grip, You sound like a broken harp.
